Good news for a change!
Most likely they were talking about Ganesh.
10 seconds on google would have given them an accurate name, I just really hate lazy journalism.
not referred to it later on differently.
I am not quite sure why it is that the word used is "creationist;" the proper word appears to be "biblical." The two are not synonymous. A scene representing Creation according to Genesis could equally be a metaphor for evolution as it could represent literal creation in 7 days, and would thereby appeal to Christians of all stripes.
In any case, despite the opposition, it's only fair that Christianity (which is by far the religion most relevant to the average American) be represented.
Too cool!
Pseudo-scientific affirmative action.
in case anyone missed it they also display an GOP themed elephant along with the hindu one. if the zoo is now required to display every religion's creation theory things could get out of hand pretty quickly, although i guess this one covers the jews and muslims are well? i think something more subtle and inspirational would be better suited, such a statue of st.francis and the animals or a noah's ark mural. those would certainly serve the same purpose without being so over the top.
Well that didn't take long.
I doubt if the Mayans or ancient Mesopotamians are going to be asking for their share in the display any time soon.
Heh. And now the conservative side is demanding affirmative action.
Its all fun and games til' the scientologists and raelians start setting up their dioramas.
Ah, bring em on.

Actually, I believe the Hebrew word used for "day" in Genesis is most often used in reference to a 24 hour period.
Leave Tom Cruise ALONE!
He needs time with his new squeeze.
"Yom", the hebrew word used for "day" in Genesis is best translated a normal solar day as it is coupled with "morning" and "evening".
