He was preaching and teaching the gospel of Christ, which touches peoples hearts and converts them through calls for peace and love and a reliance on the Master of those traits, our Savior. For this, the radical adherants to the so called "Religion of Peace", beheaded and slaughtered him.
Our clergy had better take note and stop being so docile when it comes to presenting Islam as what it really is; a thoroughly evil movement. Turning the other cheek will get their heads chopped off. They had better get it in their dense heads that Islam is NOT a religion of peace.
Christians do not seem to understand that turning the other cheek does not mean that vigorous defense of life and happiness is not contrary to Christ's teachings.
