Retired Man Was Working As A Favor

WHITLEY, Ky. -- Investigators are trying to determine what caused the tailgate of a dump truck to give way, burying a Kentucky man under hot asphalt and killing him.

The accident happened in Whitley on Monday, Louisville, Ky., television station WLKY reported.

McCreary County Pastor Jimmy Tucker was killed.

Tucker recently retired from a construction company, but was working one more week as a favor, WLKY reported.

He was looking at the back of another truck that had broken down when the gate opened, causing up to 10 tons of asphalt to fall on him. Investigators said Tucker died instantly.

Another worker was taken by helicopter to a Tennessee hospital for burn treatment.

Have you ever seen the episode of Norther Exposure where
"Maggie's" ex-boyfriend was hit by the satellite?

My Dad died in our home.
20 minutes after the ambulance took the body away, the tension broke and we laughed, telling great stories of my daddy for hours.

I agree with you Laz.

(((hugs)))

I'm gonna burn in Hell for this, but . . . . .

I can see why it took 10 tons of asphalt.

300 degrees loading out of the plant, a tad cooler at arrival - awful hot and sticky!

One of my childhood friends ran across the road barefoot right after the paver laid down the mix. We were 4 years old.

Don't leaving us hanging - did your friend make it to 5?

May God welcome Pastor with open arms, and comfort his family and congregation, in Jesus' name.

I don't suppose the truck was there while the crew was working on the end zones of a football stadium, was it?

Yep. All the Ned Flanderseses here are most welcome to drag their sanctimony over to a boring prayer thread or something. Link their reprimands to pictures of winged babies and puppies or something.

What the hell do people expect on a thread about a fire-and-brimstone Kentucky preacher getting buried in hot tar?

Looks to me like the devil got 'em, given the mode of dispatch.

Yeah, her boyfriends always went in creative ways. That Mexican shrine to the dead boyfriends she built on the mantel was hilarious.

What do we expect?

On FR we expect that the posts will indicate the inner core of a person and their opinions. We will get the opportunity to understand the poster and their views of life. And, many, just need a place to throw out the inner core beliefs and opinions that would not be acceptable among friends.

Asphalt paving mixes come out of the plant at 425 degrees +/- and are in the 350 to 300 degree range when they are placed by the paving crew. The tempeture loss is due to travel time from the plant to the project.

It sounds like the tailgate latch popped and this poor man was standing in the wrong place at the time.

I have been in the paving business for 35 years, my famly for 100, and the second lesson was NEVER stand close to the tailgate on a truck waiting to back into the paver.

I am sure that the asphalt hit him and knoched him down covering him, the burns from the material induced shock which probably caused cardiac arrest.

God Bless, Mother Mary take him to your heart. Amen

"Hank" -- if you read my posts you'll find probably about a 50:50 mix of political/religious commentary and smarta$$ remarks and photoshops--and some that are definitely both.

Jim Robinson personally pulled a thread similar to this one the other day, when it got into the bad taste zone where this one was headed.

The whole world gets an idea of what FreeRepublic is like, at heart, by the character of our posts.

Are we here to find the lowest common denominator--or to raise the bar?

Cheers.

Well, then, why was this thread started in the first place? Nobody cares if a Kentucky preacher dies, unless related.

But if he's buried in hot tar - then you've got yourself a thread.

Think of the theological implications, too - wouldn't God have called him home with a truckload of pillowtop mattresses?

It's crude but true, you don't hear about the Miami preacher who died from a heart attack, but you hear about this because it horrifying, and very strange.

This wasn't the driver's fault.

It wasn't the mechanic's fault.

It wasn't the company's fault.

And, Lord knows, it sure wasn't the pastor's fault.

It was the asphalt.
