My favorites: her Mary Magdelen in Jesus of Nazareth and Ann Sullivan in The Miracle Worker. I always thought it really neat that she and Mel Brooks were husband and wife.

Now ya jinxed it.

One thing seems certain to me - 73 is way too young.

My husband just said the same thing when I just told him.

Thanks for agreeing--and quit showing off with your spelling---LOL! Actually--thanks, because I have been sitting here trying to figure out how to spell Baryshnikov--I used to be in love with him!

I'm Russian - and my mother named her cat Mischa, after him.

He is a hunk....

It is hard to find a photograph of Anne Bancroft in her prime, as her more notable movies were in the 1960's. In Gorilla at Large, 1954, the guy playing the gorilla had better watch where that paw is going.

You are kidding, right?

Or, you are very young, lived under a rock or in a foreign country without electricity?

I remember seeing her in a B movie from the 50s and thinking how gorgeous she was in her younger days. Not that she wasn't pretty later too, of course.

120 posts and all of them are adoring!

That's not hard to do for an actress of Anne Bancroft's calibre.

She was a damn good actress, and that's what counts. She had such a friendly, open face. I loved her Mary Magdalene in "Jesus of Nazareth", loved her in "The Miracle Worker", loved her in "84 Charing Cross Road".

I feel sorry for Mel Brooks, poor man.

The Turning Point (1977) was my favorite of hers, with Shirley McClain. Their fight scene, so intense, until they end up spanking each other round and round....and then they start laughing. Don't know why that made such an impression on me. But i love any movie she was in.

RIP

Rent "The Graduate" With Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman. That was a great movie that came out in the '60's when I was a teenager. She was also in "The Miracle Worker" I believe. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Good grief! She was just 36 when this was made. She was supposed to be older, I guess. Like in her 40's or maybe early 50's? I was only 18, so I thought it was scandalous. Times have really changed. ;)

She was married to Mel Brooks for many years. Never understood that pairing.

He made her laugh. That's the most important thing in a marriage.
