The Huffington Post ^ | 6/7/05 | Arianna Huffington

Abercrombie and Fitch and its subsidiary Hollister have shown an unusual degree of anatagonism to the name of Christ and an unusual display of wickedness in their promotions.

In protest, we will not allow articles of clothing displaying their logos to we worn, carried or displayed. (even if covered or masked in some way)

"I guess that means I'm antagonizing christ!"

I'll leave that to Him to judge. But as a private college, they have the right to ban whatever they want. Don't want to comply, don't go there.

Bob Jones has long been known for having very strict rules. It's not for everyone.

I know it wasn't shown live nationally - I was just pointing out that I believe at least in the early days I believe it was shown live in at least the Chicago area - if not parts of the midwest.

saying that Catholics are "Pagens" and not "real" Christians

Same thing a lot of Catholics say about Protestants.
Whoops

Laugh... definately.

In fact Bob Jones had a small television ministry in the late 70s. It was only a season or two - but there were so many scandals with "televangelists" they decided the show could/would be very misunderstood and people would not receive the message. They stopped the show while I was in school there '76 - '80.

While I have certainly heard individual, self-proclaimed Catholics question certain beliefs and practices of various Protestant denominations over the years, to the best of my knowledge, the Church itself is not anti-Protestant nor does it refer to Protestants as second class Christians or call them Pagans. In contrast, Bob Jones' Sr., Jr., and III have repeatedly made anti-Catholic statements over the years, and given their leadership positions, I have to assume their statements reflect the official policy of their University and Church.

Well, since we are all one happy family, I'll be by to take Communion on Sunday.

I'm sorry, I don't have any written regulations; Just anecdotal. I was at 29 Palms in 1999-2000, Okinawa in 2000 and Camp Pendleton from 2000-2003.

So smoking crack and swinging from a trapeze in lingerie is right out, then?

And .. you're an arrogant ass! I saw the program - so you can believe whatever you want .. but you have no justification to be talking to me like that. You're rude and condescending .. because you just can't handle the truth. There really are people who belong to and support the church of Satan.

Strange.

Snopes says you are mistaken about seeing Liz Claiborne on Oprah.

Claiborne had never been on The Oprah Winfrey Show, a fact Winfrey's publicity people immediately and vehemently confirm any time these rumors arise.

Trapezes are fine, those are not wicked.

I attend a conservative Christian college and we can dance and date.

Frankly, I don't believe in casual dating, so I don't do it.

But, I am not going to call myself a sinner for dancing to music in my room when I feel a bit loony.

Drinking is not allowed, which is fine with me. I don't drink and there are students who are underage.

But, BJU, which used to ban interracial relationships, has some serious problems.

Don't assume when I say dating I mean casual dating.

Isn't this the school that advocated against "mixing of the races"?

BJU is part of the slightly scary wing of the Christian funadamentalist movement. Theyy're still in the respectable portion of that group, but not by much.

If people like them came to power in this country, America would be screwed.

CyberAnt wrote with respect to Bob Jones University:
Long hair and a beard is not the issue .. and you know it.
Nevertheless, the post to which CyberAnt was replying includes a link to Bob Jones University contradicting CyberAnt’s statement.

Then CyberAnt posts an urban legend as a first-hand account.

When confronted with clear evidence of the inaccuracy of both posts, CyberAnt never retracts the erroneous statements. Instead, now CyberAnt creates a conspiracy:

it could be that Oprah was threated [sic] with a huge lawsuit which forced her to destroy the tape of the show and to swear it never happened.

CyberAnt’s credibility has taken a major dive on this board.

Freepers tend to sift fact from fiction quickly, and this thread is a good example.

Jesus was a Nazarene (Mark 16:6). The Nazarites were never to allow a razor to touch the head.  (Numbers 6:5)

How is that proof that He had long hair?

Three times Jesus was called a Nazarene.  The Apostle Paul was also accused of being a leader of the "sect" of Nazarenes.  The distinguishing characteristic of this sect was the long hair and beards of the men.  It was a vow of separation that they made with God.

Somehow I think that, short of a camera snapshot, you wont be convinced. But the reason I posted was to explain how biblical scholars come to that conclusion, not to present a convincing argument.

Now, now no need for name calling.
BJ and his followers have a negative view of catholosism, this is true, but they do not call names or condemn all Catholics.
They do think the Pope is the Anti-Christ.
