That story from the girls in Mass. does make one wonder if that wasn't the same criminals. Sounds like a similar situation, except they survived.

I have become somewhat shocked and disappointed in the behavior of American teenagers. I remember a young girl (only 18) that we got to know a few years ago at a religious retreat. She was one of those extremely popular ones, queen of everything, liked by the teachers etc. Chosen to give the senior speech.

She was also very, very religious. We were shocked to discover that she was sexually active with multiple partners. She did want to stop but simply couldn't. I could just see her going to a place like Aruba and getting in trouble.

My daughter is 19 and my son is 17. They are both honor students who have attended Christian school since the first grade. The sex education they received at school and at home has focused on the benefits of abstinence and the dangers of promiscuousness. Our home seems to be the base for their friends to congregate and of a dozen or two kids, I know of only one who is sexually active. His girlfriend is pregnant and his youth as he knows it is basically over. Discussion between this group of friends centers on this sad fact.

I share all this to point out that there are many good kids out there. The description of Natalee's accomplishments sounds like many of my children's friends. I find it hard to believe that a young lady would find it entertaining to go off and have sex with three strangers. The consequences are so great, the danger so real.

The teenagers I've been blessed to know are some of the most well behaved, responsible young adults imaginable. I can't fathom the pain Natalee's parents are experiencing right now. Prayers.
