I may not leave America again either, though the travel bug in my system is alive and well. Maybe a trip to Argentina, which I hear is still pretty friendly to Americans and is much cheaper than Europe. A man in our church works for NASA and is assigned to Buenos Aires where he helps the Argentine space program get a satellite up. Chile is reputedly good to Americans too. I am not going to sit at bars and chat with local guys, however.

Last year my brother spent 6 weeks in Costa Rica, and he said Americans are loved there. I'm so sick of the illegal invasion, just the thought of traveling south turns me off cold. I would like to go back to Banff, Canada and spend a couple of weeks in that area again, but since 9-11 I'm not a big fan of flying either, so I'm going to vacation in the U.S.

I recently saw a tv show about the building of the hotel at Banff; it's spectacular, both the hotel and the surroundings. Can't you get there by train?

I live in a cold place so my idea of vacation is south. Not necessarily south of the border. I'd like to see Savannah and Charleston for sure. I don't know about Costa Rica, but Mexico has the worst diseases on the planet, according to my doc--worse than India and Africa he says. Argentina is so far south and so Europeanized that public health is not a problem.
