NEW YORK -- A body part apparently fell from the wheel well of a plane coming in for a landing on Tuesday at John F. Kennedy Airport and landed in a suburban backyard, authorities said.

More remains were found on a South African Airways flight after it landed at Kennedy, said Tony Ciavolella, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Police suspect the remains were that of a male stowaway, the spokesman said. He would not confirm that the incidents at the airport and Long Island were related, saying, "It's still under investigation."

Messages left with South African Airways were not immediately returned.

Police in Nassau County received a call at 10:51 a.m. about a body part found in the backyard of a house. It apparently had hit the roof of a garage and bounced to the ground, said Officer Thomas Blanchard.

The South African Airways flight had originated in Johannesburg, but made one stop in Dakar, Senegal.

"But if the person is unconscious when the wheels go back down, they can be in for a world of hurt!"

I can tell you with a high degree of certainty, that not only was he unconscious, but quite dead. The cold temperatures and lack of oxygen at the average cruising altitude would kill anyone.

"Police suspect the remains were that of a male stowaway"

He should have kept his gear retracted.

Plenty of planes entering US airspace put their landing gear down over the water. Makes me wonder how many body parts have fallen out of planes that we never hear about.

Too bad for the home owner that there wasn't a bowl of Wendy's Chili in the back yard for it to land in.

probable cruise altitude...between 33-40 thousand feet...If the well was unpressurized: probable outside air temp.....area of magnitude minus 40 degrees.....probable available oxygen....nil.....westbouind flight time around 8 hours...goodbye

How long before we can expect some pro-illegal group to call for air tanks and down clothing in the wheel wells of all Interantional flights?

US bound only, natch.

What these pro-criminal groups will do is ask the government to require every US bound flight to set aside a seat or three to accept free-boarders without papers who we can't detain once in the USA. Then we will have to feed, clothe, and house them before we provide health care and welfare entitlements. Then the Democrats will say that they are truly the blessed as long as they vote socialist.

That's a shame he died.

That is allegedly died. In fact, so far you are the only one to suggest he died. Do you know something?

Actually there were several successful escapes from Cuba in the seventies, along with several poorly planned failures.

The key was that it is only 90 miles to Miami from Cuba so the temps and oxygen deprivation are not as big a problem.

Failure:

Success:

Of course, these are not examples of the flight from Havana to Miami, they are simply other examples that I was able to locate. The Havana to Madrid case is truly a miracle!

"...in a macabre and ironic twist, the neighborhood on which the body parts fell was hosting the annual summer Chili cook-off at the time..."

Lesson learned - if one is going to try and stowe away in a wheel well, then bring oxygen and what ever one does, stay away from the metal parts!

All lobster which you acquire should be immediately sent to me by air for safe disposal. This is for your own good.
