POLL Hillary in 2008? James A. Barnes and Peter Bell, reporters for National Journal, regularly poll more than a hundred political insiders—selected for their campaign experience, political knowledge, and ties to key voting blocs. Recently, for The Atlantic, they asked about the presidential prospects of Hillary Clinton. A list of poll participants can be found at the bottom of this article by James A. Barnes and Peter Bell ..... Here are verbatum comments from the survey of National Journal's Political insiders for The Atlantic. Democratic insiders who say that if she gets into the race, Hillary Clinton will win the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination: "If Hillary runs Hillary wins—simple as that. She's doing all the right things, going to all the right states, building up political chits, and steering for the middle. She has to convince the 'nervous Nellies' in the party though that she's not a totally polarizing figure and that she can win the general [election]." ...

I agree with:

"She's still too sanctimonious, particularly when someone gets under her skin. While her gender isn't a big liability, it gives her less room for error if she comes across as a bitch. She'll have moved to the middle enough to satisfy most swing voters, and she's sharpening her foreign policy credentials. But if one of the debates gets tough, she'll turn into Bob Dole in drag."

Hillary will find no trouble getting the nomination. The democrats supported her rapist husband, they will certainly support her. How badly, politically, damaged she will be, is the question. I think, with all the help of the media, she comes out as strong as she went in.

Hmmm...Paris Hilton for president? As horrible as it sounds, she'd do less damage than Hilary.

How badly, politically, damaged she will be, is the question.
Clearly that is the issue. When you consider Whitewater/CastleGrande, Cattlegate, and the magically appearing billing records, Hillary has plenty of dirt on her own personal skirts. Then if you add in Travelgate, Fostergate, and FBI Filegate (who did hire Vince Foster?), plus the pardon of Puerto Rican terrorists for her NY Senate campaign, there is an enormous backlog of reasons why a Clinton doesn't belong in the WH.

The issue for the national Democratic Party is whether it is any more respectable than the Democratic Party of New Jersey was when it renominated Robert Torricelli for Senate, knowing that he was a sleaze. And the same question has to be asked of the saints in "objective" journalism.

Except that rather than questioning Journalism we just have to understand that absolute lack of ethics is a given. Just see how moral it was for Felt and Woodward & Bernstein to publicize FBI secrets. It's immoral to promote anyone with Hillary's track record for public office. The NY Democratic Party nominated her for Senate by acclamation, and it is far from obvious that there is any more character in journalism and the rest of the national Democratic Party.
