ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Governor Robert Ehrlich has directed the state police to cease using night vision gear to enforce the state's seat belt laws.
State police will continue to enforce the laws, but won't use the special goggles that were tested for the first and only time last Wednesday night in Montgomery County. The governor got plenty of complaints about the practice.
His spokeswoman, Shareese DeLeaver, says Ehrlich doesn't usually support Big Brother tactics when it comes to law enforcement. State police spokesman Greg Shipley says the night-vision equipment was borrowed from the military and has already been returned.
Shipley says the night-vision goggles were used only as a test. State troopers have issued more than 30,000 seat belt citations and warnings this year.
It was only a matter of time until the seat belt laws became a new profit center.
Thanks for the link.

We have no career legislators. None.
Thanks for the laugh!!
To make sure that they have real jobs and are not full-time leeches like in other states.
I suppose you like red light cameras and all that as well.
you must be real fun at parties.
How the heck does the state make any money?
Alright, this obviously is a joke. Was your initial post one as well?
Well, both. You make a nice salary at the national level.
Of course, if you want to make some real money fast, get into lobbying. One heck of of a nice living.....rolling in the dough.
Don't forget open carry.
Been sore tempted to strap on a .50 cal hogleg at lunchtime in Nashua. See how many Massholes faint.
On weekends, when one is leaving DC via route 1 or rhode island ave., there is usually a seat belt checkpoint. They do it at the border so that it is sort of like a toll to get into maryland.
yabbut the property taxes are a killa..
Terrific.
Unfortunately, It's just too damn cold....
My property tax on a 3 bedroom house on half an acre with a 24x30, 2 story garage in a nice neighborhood is $3,500 per year.
Now, add up your state income tax, state sales tax and state property tax. If I lived in any of the surrounding states, my state income tax alone would be more than that.
be ready for an increase in click it or ticket here on the shore... it is definitely the profit center of the future and will be implemented soon...
all municipalities will write more citations for this and speeding to balance their increasing budgets.
