"Oil Storm", a fictionalized docudrama, deals with the aftermath of a severe hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, crippling both oil production and oil importation (15% of our national daily supply if memory serves) and its economic and social consequences for the nation at large.
The government's inability to make up this shortfall, due to political considerations, limited global supplies, and several additional disasters make for riveting viewing, even for those on this forum who believe energy supplies are inexhaustible.
FX is available on satellite t.v. and many cable providers; for those of you who still rely on over the air broadcasting, do yourself a favor and get a friend to record it for you.
The film postulated that we struck a deal with Russia for oil, in return for a substantial investment in increasing their oil production capacity...hardly unreal.
On the other hand, China did not help us but instead, outbid us for the Russian oil...until such time as we sweetend the pie with the Russians...all certainly plausible scenarios.
I humbly stand corrected.
I apologize. That's what happens when I try to respond to responses that are coming in fairly rapidly.
I will read more carefully....I will read more carefully...I will read more carefully....
Okay, how about, huge, enormous, unrealistic, liberal slanted craptacular pile of dog excrement????
Good start. Now repeat after me:
I will watch more carefully.....I will watch more carefully....I will watch more carefully
No problem, we're just having a friendly conversation, at least as far as I'm concerned. I don't get wound up about too much.
Tune in next month!!
I saw the initial showing several weeks ago and found it entertaining also. Haven't seen any of the follow up series yet but am looking forward to it.
I will watch, read, and respond more carefully...I will watch, read, and respond more carefully...I will watch, read, and respond more carefully...
Sounds like they conveniently left out the fact we have a huge Strategic Petroleum Reserve for this (or similar) purpose. Oh well, like many in the media, who can be bothered with facts...
It was just on last night. It was new to me. I did not see the inital showing of the "4400" when it first showed, but I did see it several months ago when it was rerun on the SCIFI channel. What they showed last night was new to me. However they are advertising that it will on next Sunday night on USA...and that it will be the "New Season".
Been there, done that. Stupid, stupid show.

A hurricane in the Gulf that did that much damage would probably destroy New Orleans, reroute the Mississippi River thus destroying gas pipelines, in turn shutting down the Northeast power grid. I don't think the demand for oil would be at the same level after the destruction considering how big a chunk would be taken out of the economy.
The worst hericane imaginable might take out some of the surface rigs but would have little effect on the infrastructure on the ocean floor. Most, if not all of the production would be restored within a year. Look into the concept of oilfield safety valves. If the top structure is removed, the wells simply shut themselves down. This reminds me of the movie The Day After Tomorrow. It just wouldn't happen.
Well, I saw it. As I posted last night it was boring as H*ll and leftist propaganda. The storyline was overly simplistic that only complained about the problems and didn't offer logical solutions such as rationing and providing fuel for critical needs such as farmers, transportation workers, health workers, etc. The hate America first bunch probably loved it.
Very good.
Impossible. No "Nature Gone Wild!" program could bottom that.
I did find the Fundamentalist uprising in Saudi Arabia realistic, however. But-no mention of the oil reserves off the California coast, which we probably could use if the enviro-whackos would let us? And what about Anwar, or the recent discovery in Utah? Or even Canada, for that matter?
I hope it's not going to conflict with a new reality game show I'm producing. Its called "A small room, a pile of money, and a bunch of knives". I think I will retire in Malibu.
Hey! I'd like to sign up for your game show - only thing is - I'm going to follow what my dad always told me - always bring a gun to a knife fight. Any objections to my bringing in my Remington 870? I'd like to retire too... :)
