New York Senator Hillary Clinton blasted the press on Monday for going too easy on President Bush, complaining that reporters are letting his administration get away with the worst abuse of power in American history.
"There has never been an administration, I don't believe in our history, more intent upon consolidating and abusing power to further their own agenda," said Mrs. Clinton, whose own administration collected FBI files on opponents and had accusers audited by the IRS.
Addressing a gathering of "Women for Hillary," she urged journalists to go after the Bush White House.
"Where are the investigative reporters today?" she demanded, in quotes picked up by the New York Times. "Why aren't they asking the hard questions?"
Though the press has yet to question her, for instance, about an array of scandals - including reports last month that the Clinton administration's Viagra mandate ended up providing the impotence drug to sex offenders - Mrs. Clinton said she was shocked by the press' pro-Bush bias.
"It's shocking when you see how easily they fold in the media today," she complained. "They don't stand their ground. If they're criticized by the White House, they just fall apart."
Mrs. Clinton repeated her call for the media to get tough with Bush, addressing reporters in absentia:
"I mean, c'mon, toughen up, guys, it's only our Constitution and country at stake. Let's get some spine."
That is certainly my attitude.
Though, first, conservatives/Republicans need to be broken of this rabid fear they have of the shrew. The Dem candidate will be propped up by the MSM and their grassroots. It's a given. It matters not whether it is Hillary, Kerry, Biden, Richardson..whomever.
We need to recognize who are our real adversaries are. The people are the ones with the real power even if the washington insiders arrogantly believe otherwise. I respect the people at Kos, DU, moveon.org for that reason alone. They know they are the power before the Leftists they put in office. Ditto the MSM. How often in recent memory has the MSM taken to lecturing the Democrats how to govern?
Base pitted against base. Old Media vs New Media. Clashes of ideology. If the Reps (and we) are smart we don't make this a race against a candidate but a referendum on the direction American wants to take this country in the next century. To an extent that theme was pursued in the last election with the WOT and Judges. It needs to be expanded. Conservative vs Liberal. Make the People vote on ideas. Getting pulled down into the mud by making the lection about two people will make this campaign far more difficult than it need be.
Keep it up Hillary, America is watching..
Time to bring out the snakehead pic :-)
Great comment.
You're such a "Cold Ethyl." :)
Gasses such as Nitrogen, Ethenal and Ethyl gas for cars, are very cold, Liquid Nitrogen will freeze your finger to the tank, Ethyl gas will too, when I want it to.
What you just said, is close to what Ken Mehlman said yesterday on MTP---
He refused to get pulled into name-calling by Tim Russert---I think Russert got frustrated because he wanted Mehlman to talk about Hillary as an adversary, but he said that the Republicans aren't concerned with who the opponent will be, they worry about getting their message to the people that haven't heard it....
He was Soooo cool, calm, and collected during Russert's grilling...
She's so out of it I wonder if the senate is the only place that could possibly tolerate such insanity.

"There has never been an administration, I don't believe in our history, more intent upon consolidating and abusing power to further their own agenda," said Mrs. Clinton.
Yes there has. One of them was the Administration of her husband, Bill Clinton.
And the saga continues....
Punt.
She actually wants someone, anyone, to probe her, but the idea is too repulsive.
Good for Mehlman that he didn't fall for it. Mehlman speaks for the Party. For the "Party" to acknowledge an "individual" as a threat to the collective would be granting one woman extrodinary powers she has not earned. I would add an addendum about the expansion reach to receptive voters. It is clear he puts his feet where his mouth is since he is breaching Dem blocks to speak to their traditional base. Particularly in minority communties. However, a lot is expected of representatives elected to deliver on promises. They need to be mindful of the fact certain members are struggling to diliver, specifically in the U.S. Senate. It has potential to sour attitudes and must be addressed.
Getting rather BOLD isn't she......but, then, after what happened in Washington, the State, today....the Dems will win elections in every state from NOW ON!!!!
that's is just so wrong!!!!!
:) HA!
These same people have discounted the 'landslide' victory that was 2004 simply because it wasn't a 50 state sweep. They fail to take into account 2004 was not 1984 nor the environment of Nixon's period.
Michael Barone was preparing an extensive accounting of the election using historical data with a concluding viewpoint similiar to my own based on his findings, I wonder if he concluded it. Reminded of it just now, was looking forward to it based on the snippet released early a few months ago.
As to Hillary, as moderate Lib turned conservative perhaps I'm immune to fear of the woman. To see anyone subscribe to fear of the aging Clintonian is frustrating. She isn't God. She'll turn to dust one day and her name will be a footnote 100 years later. I refuse to fear any man or any woman, least of all one I cannot even bring myself to respect as an adversary.
This isn't to say I discount her strengths. She's driven, passionate, decent advisors, a base that would vote for just about anyone as long as they didn't have an "R" by their name, MSM megaphone and the attachment of the Clinton name by marriage. What I oppose is morphing her into a whirlwind that cannot be stopped.
