Yes, but if he pushes it, and loses, he hurts his chances to win in 2008.

I understand the thought behind this, but I just don't buy it anymore. I think Republicans have got to fight vote fraud wherever they find it and when they find it. Waiting years for the mere possibility that the screwed-over candidate will win is not a recipe for success. It is, however, one of many reasons why the Republican Party is the Stupid Party.

Just think of the damage these fraudulent Democrats do when they steal their way into office. Some of it--like judicial appointments--can never be repaired.

I agree, they should have drug every one of those felons in and made them testify. Make them pay the price!

Does anybody remember the 'Rat slogan from 2000: "Let every vote count"?

This sucks.

This is a comment from Powerline:

A judge in Washington earlier today declined to order a new election in the disputed governor's race. Michelle Malkin has full coverage. Apparently the main thrust of the judges's ruling was that, while there was evidence of 1,678 illegal votes cast--which I think is around ten times Gregoire's margin of victory--there was no evidence as to who got the illegal votes, so the Republicans failed in their burden of proof. Of course, if that's the standard, election challenges are futile, since I can't see how there would ever be a record of which candidate a particular voter (real or nonexistent) voted for.

That quote from Joe Steel should be the official slogan of the Democratic Party. The sad part is that the Republicans, in their usual fashion, simply roll over like the French before the Wehrmacht.

Weel, because it is Not THE standard, only thee Standard when a lowly pubbie is daring to challenge a "popularly-elected" DEMOCRAT. When, however, a DEMOCRAT is challenging a lowly corporate-sponsored pubbie, it only takes a mere whisper of deceit, Newsweak rumours would qualify, to start the incessant drumbeat for JUSTICE UNBOUND to lead to the reversal of the so-called "actual electoral results", in favor of the "actual electoral votes if all the voters were unleashed and properly informed" according to the enlightened opinion of our lords and masters.

I would agree that Rossi should take the high road from here on out to preserve his position to challenge Cantwell.

Once and for all we should get it through our thick heads that Rossi has said he will not run for the Senate. He has said it himself. We're wasting our time beating this dead horse. Rossi has stated his reasons (family, the desire to change things in his state, which being Governor allows you to do, being Senator does not). I think he also has two other reasons which have gone unstated. First, it's a two-bit consolation prize, and consolation prizes are for losers, which Rossi is not. Second, I think he feels he probably would not win that race anyway (and he's right).

This isn't 100% true. There are ways to do it. If you can prove that there were 1000 fraudulent votes out of 1500 in a single precinct and 1400 of the votes were for Gregoire, then at least 900 fraudulent votes were for Gregoire and at most 100 for Rossi. Unfortunately, this usually doesn't happen in such numbers. The fraudulent votes are usually split throughout big precincts.

Hopefully Rossi will try to get a bill passed that will end this nonsense. Death penalty for voter fraud!

what I found even funnier is, if you read the full article, in the judges ruling he states something to the extent that unless purposeful mishandling or fraud could be proved an illegal vote must be counted...????

It is truly amazing to me that someone can win two recounts and still lose the election. Rossi obviously won.

And that's from an outsider's viewpoint. I have no horse in this race.

Standard leftist stuff. Keep counting until you win, then declare victory. Election over. No further recounts or review necessary. Gore tried it too, with selective recounts. Different day, different court, different outcome.

The lesson all the nice country clubbers need to take from this is:

Don't quit. Keep counting until you win. There is an error in every count, no matter how well it's done, and you just keep doing counts until the error is in your favor.

And then you STOP COUNTING.

Works for the Democrats. It's their admitted strategy. Get a judge to reverse an election? Pretty tough. Judiciary doesn't want to really interfere if they don't have to.

So just do what they do. They managed to steal a governor's house.

I saw it coming. If I understand the law correctly, I don't even disagree with much of the judges decision. I disagree that there was no fraud in King County (that's mind boggling that he said that, they actually admitted, in court, that they filed a false election report. If that's not fraud, what is?), but as to the letter of the rest of the law, he's right. It's just that the law is hopelessly stupid.

The law, as I understand it, says that you must prove that the illegal votes changed the outcome of the election, which is all but impossible. The R's tried to argue that they should be analyzed perportionally according to precinct, which...I personally think is not so good. A vote is a sovern thing, we shouldn't base them on statistics for the same reason we don't take the census by statistics.

That said, the 'rats idea was even worse. They wanted to call up EVERY SINGLE ILLEGAL VOTER, and ASK them how they voted.

Many of them are felons, who's committment to the truth is obviously questionable, while others are dead, or non-existent. (Yes, the dems were arguing we needed to ask the dead and non-existent voters how they voted) So, basically, it's impossible by their standard.

What this leaves us with, is essentially that we have no election challenge statue in Washington. It is impossible to overturn an election result once the election has been certified. You could literally do almost anything to manipulate the vote, and unless you could absolutely prove, like a murder case, who they voted for, it's meaningless.

The statute is quite obviously stupid. A 5-year-old can see that. It is easy: change it to what it is in every other state if X illegal votes is greater then Y margin of victory, then Z remedy, probably a revote.

It's not justice, but it's not a bad outcome.

Now it is up to the voters to rectify the situation. My guess is they will be good and mad next election.

"doesn't raise a fuss ... something real sappy"

Bull-Pschitt. We need to keep up the anger. This is a triumph of corruption and needs to be called that. If people get used to this sort of thing, it makes it that much easier for the Rat enemy to steal another election.

We were right and they were wrong. That means we're still right. If we stop saying that, the stupid public will stop believing it.

Washington is almost a lost cause. Rossi will better serve the state as Senator in 2006.

I agree; flush that turd - - the place is almost in the New Jersey/California/Massachusetts category thanks to one big parasite nest (King County). The GOP would best concentrate on House seats and maybe grabbing a Senate seat, if possible.

so- the judge basically admits there were illegal and invalid votes but will do nothing about it??

Not only that, but Rossi says in response "Really? Gee. Well, ok, fine with me then. I give up, because my future political career might be harmed and that's my highest priority. I might get elected to something in '06 if I sweep vote fraud under the rug now; let it stand and don't bother raising hell about it."

What a puss. Typical Republican politician - what "principles"?
