That STILL Makes me ILL...oh me, too.
That dear little baby suffered something awful as he was slowly deprived of oxygen

There is no effective deterrent for crime in this country.

Thanks for the ping.
I agree w/you that justice is lacking here.
I don't think he will ever get paroled. Just my hunch.

Seems like a lot of room for corruption.
6 to Infinity (Bubba would have found that kind of power irresistible)

Thanks for the ping, Miz. This sort of got pushed aside for the MJ trial..sad to say.
Hacking should spend the rest of his miserable, sick life in prison. At least he can't pretend he's something he's not, in there.
6 years minimum? wow. I'm shocked.

How does this solve the issue of variation in sentencing when it's 6 years to life? And does Utah have the death penalty?

Mark Hacking was sentenced Monday to six years to life...
An innocent womans life isn't worth much anymore.
Shame, really.

Me too. Perhaps he'll have a very rough time in jail....

Yes, we do have the death penalty.

Yes, we do have the death penalty.

"Mark Hacking gave emotional testimony, admitted to killing Lori and his unborn baby. " And then he most likely said," I have a testimony of the gospel and I know the church is true"
Probably cried and spilled his guts to the brethren and sisters on the sentencing jury.

Sorry for the double post.

Utah does have the death penalty.
But they would have had to go to trial for it.
And between the judge, Lori's family, and Hacking's lawyer, this was the deal that was worked out to get his guilty plea and to keep the family from having to go through a trial, or at least that's how the local news discussed it when his plea was announced.

So what's up? I grew up in Utah; I know all about the death penalty and I know that the will to enforce it exists. I've got
female relatives who'd be happy to lend a rope or trigger finger.
What is with the sentencing? Was he tried for capital murder? Or some lesser form of murder?

With this sentence, what does he have to do to get out in six?

God help us all if he is out in six years.
Meanwhile a guy who stole a TV finally got out after what, 30 years??
