A Continent Of Clowns: Helluva Show
Fred on Everything ^ | June 6, 2005 | Fred

“WASHINGTON (AP) -- Bursting into tears, eighth-grader Anurag Kashyap of California became the U.S. spelling champ Thursday… Tied for second place were 11-year-old Samir Patel, who is home-schooled in Colleyville, Texas, and Aliya Deri, 13, a Pleasanton, California, student.” Indian kids have won first place in five of the last seven years.

Might be there’s a pattern here? Nah.

A friend in California has an Asia wife (which both he and I recommend), and so is among the few whites plugged into the state’s Asian community. He reports that the Asians are contemptuous of whites. (“Lazy, not very smart.”) The evidence supports them. They also believe that the chief aim of schooling in America is to coddle blacks and Latinos, which baffles them. Me too, but it isn’t my problem.

Top twelve students on the USA Math Olympiad 2003: Boris Alexeev, Jae Bae, Daniel Kane, Anders Kaseorg (home-schooled), Mark Lipson, Tiankai Liu, Po-Ru Loh, Po-Ling Loh, Aaron Pixton, Kwokfung Tang, Tony Zhang, Yan Zhang.

Take out Asians and Jews out of measures of high intellectual performance in America, and you aren’t left with much. The foregoing doesn’t look much different from staffing lists I have encountered for such things as research teams at Bell Labs. A friend, writing a book on Harvard, calculates that Asians and Jews make up about forty-five percent of the school. The Asians know this, of course. They figure the future is theirs. So do I.

Several immigrants from India I've known considered English their first language even before they came to the U.S. -- or were, at least, raised to be fluent in it. That's a big advantage over other Asian immigrant groups, especially with regard to spelling bees.

He is entertaining. Sounds like a right wing knockoff of the late Hunter S. Thompson. (That is a compliment)

This is an "excellent article"? Have you been to Asia? (I have.) Is there an Asian country among the top five countries you would choose to live in if you were forced to leave the U.S.? Not me. This article sounds like more pseudo-marxist, whitey-bashing to me. That crap is more common than dirt, even here on FR. Booooring!

So, how do we combat this trend?

1) Remove all X-boxes and the like from homes in America.

2) Bring back corporal punishment ("taking hacks") in schools.

3) Allow parents to DISCIPLINE their kids again.

4) Remove liberal teachers from American schools and teach subjects that students NEED to become productive citizens.

I know...it'll never happen. But I can dream.

I agree with you. If they are so much better than us, why don't they stay home and fix their own countries? Have they ever thought that maybe us "whites" are too tired from having to support their countries, defend their countries, etc.... I mean, give me a break!!!

It is easy to come to America and make it....all the hard work has been done, i.e. building a republic, infrastructure, etc....

He is writing about those Asians who have the wit to leave their backward homelands and come to where their intelligence can pay off. When they contemplate Asians as a group that they experience they are talking about that self-selected elite. So long as they go to America we benefit.

"I know...it'll never happen. But I can dream."

The LAST year my youngest was in HS, was the year the police came to the hallways.... I am so damn happy I am past that stage of life.

Don't write off Fred Reed in such a cavalier manner - that is certainly one of the problems with Americans - we are such an arrogant lot! He is somewhat weird but a lot of truth comes out in his columns. We are definitely shortchanging our children and the public school system as it is today should be abolished and parents need to practice a little "tough love." Check out his columns at www.FredOnEverything.net

"(“Lazy, not very smart.”)"

Go jump in a rice paddy. You people can bend over in the hot sun picking rice by hand but Americans would build a machine that would put you all out of jobs. Being smart is not what you know but what you do with what you know. And knowing a bunch of never used words is nonsense.

But .. I notice the column never puts the blame where it belongs .. right into the lap of the liberal educators in America. The wonderful group like the NEA who believes it's more important to teach these children how to put a condom on a banana than it is to know what's really going on in the world. Plus .. they never teach them how GOOD AMERICA IS.

Thru the NEA all the history books show America as bad and only other MINORITIES are good. It's been a very long process of totally dumbing down America .. why ..?? because that's how the liberals will control them.

What I find interesting .. with all these MINORITIES who value education coming to America .. this could mean we will have a whole new generation of teachers who will be giving the children a better education.

This article is remarkable. I've heard similar comments about our educational mess and reasons for same from a Taiwanese immigrant as well as one from Italy. Both hold great contempt for lower class lack of initiative and the coddling going on...affirmative action.

He is writing about those Asians who have the wit to leave their backward homelands and come to where their intelligence can pay off.

Success depends on many things in addition to intelligence. By my observation, the main things holding India and China back are cronyism and corruption. I think the reason America is such a great success is because we have so many decent, honest, patriotic, generous people. Sure, we have a lot of Democrats too. But that just proves how productive the rest of us are.

People who focus on these exceptional, relentlessly striving "geniuses" as the source of our nation's strength and prosperity are foolish to discount the contributions of all of the more "average" people who get the best job they can and keep it, work hard, raise ther kids well, help out their neighbors, join the military, etc.

We have the world's greatest country, and it has to do with a lot more than whether little Johnny can spell "parcheesi."

I find nothing in this article which would compel me to read more of this "author's" works.

I don't need arrogant foreigners thumbing their noses at Americans, I lived in a predominately Puerto Rican neighborhood for over 25 years. Their arrogant bs attitude towards Americans will not be tolerated by this conservative. Nevr, no way, not in any shape, fashion or form

Yes, this American will have a cavalier attitude toward these ingrates.
