Miles OBrien to Co-Anchor CNNs American Morning with Soledad OBrien
Miles OBrien, co-anchor of CNNs Live From, will join American Morning as co-anchor with Soledad OBrien starting Monday, June 20, it was announced today by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. Bill Hemmer plans to leave the network to pursue other opportunities, while Jack Cafferty will join The Situation Room, a new afternoon news program, to provide commentary and insight.
Were honing the cast of American Morning in order to focus on what the audience wants most and what CNN does best: the latest news delivered with the greatest intelligence, Klein said. In a morning television landscape littered with mindless entertainment, there will be one name you can rely on for no-nonsense news: OBrien.
Miles OBrien will be based in New York and will continue to serve as the networks space correspondent. He joined in 1992 and has held a number of important anchor positions over the years earning him many journalistic distinctions. Most recently, he served as co-anchor of Live From weekday afternoons with Kyra Phillips. Phillips now becomes the lead anchor of Live From.
In February 2003, O'Brien distinguished himself as both an anchor and correspondent when he led CNN's coverage of the Columbia Space Shuttle tragedy, offering viewers exclusive information and uniquely insightful context based on his experience with NASA and space exploration. O'Brien has anchored many breaking news events, including the networks coverage of the war in Iraq.
Hemmer, who joined CNN in 1995 and American Morning in 2002, will be leaving the network. His last day is June 17.
After 10 years of distinguished service at CNN, Bill Hemmer has decided to pursue other opportunities, and we wish him well, Klein said.
American Morning broadcasts weekdays from 7-10a.m. (ET) on CNN/U.S. Kim Bondy is the vice president of morning programming of CNNs American Morning.

Hemmer is pretty good...hes on FOX within 6 months...the rest are idiots
How can this be? Have you seen him? He's looks about 17 years old.
I do like Jack Cafferty, he's more like an old curmudgeon. He lays it out how he sees it, which means he's not suited for morning news. He may shine in the afternoon.
CNN lost out here.
:: SNOOOOORE ::
Wait...what? What's that? CNN is losing more talent? Oh...well that's just the most shocking statement I've ever heard.
Back to sleep...

Back to sleep...
This guy was pretty well composed and had a wry and dry sense of humor. I bet we see him on fox or one of the major local market stations in LA, NY or DC.
I like Bill Hemmer. He's a local kid here in Cincy. Went to Elder High School.
I wish him well. He's from a solid West Side Catholic conservative family.
Is he leaving to finish his senior year in high school?
What? Bill Sammon is going to Fox? What will he be doing? I adore him.
Bill Hemmer was professional and had all the tools of TV journalism. Like my wife and I, he couldn't "take" Soledad, whi IS a tool. Jack Cafferty couldn't take her either. CNN Execs have made a bad choice on who to keep.
It has been very painful this week watching O'Brien stumble and mumble through the broadcast, one thing can be said about Bill, he at least knew how to read. I can now sleep an extra hour with both Bill and Cafferty gone there is no reason to watch. Soledad and Miles have about as much chemistry as two dead fish.
I totally agree about Miles and Soledad. Absolutely no chemistry. In fact they have as much chemistry as a couple who have been married for quite some time. Are they?
I liked Cafferty. I thought he had wit and a sense of humor and wasn't an idiot.
Just saw where Bill Hemmer signed on with Fox. CNN lost another good one.
They should have kept him and ditched Solidad. She is absolutely unbearable.
Fox needs to snag Sanjay, Carol Costello, and Chad Myers. There is no reason to tune in. It's about time to fire Larry King. He needs to put his own kids to sleep instead of the viewers.
Dead fish have alot of chemistry, just smell them. ;^)
