Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Darn Tony Snow was in for O'Reilly and I missed all but the last interview:(
I only saw Byrd for a second when I changed to c-span during a commercial during Kailey's cartoons...LOL
I just LOVED Byrd's tie today!!! I guess he isn't planning on having a session tomorrow, or you would think he would have saved it for then...
Sessions was so cute when he said he really couldn't comprehend the trade stuff!!! He is a remarkable lawyer, but trade agreements go over his head....lol I was glad to hear that, because they go over MY head also. Maybe that is why I really haven't been able to "enjoy" this as much as say judicial nominees!
I have not been able to make sense of it either, like when they start on tax plans, my brain shuts down! I can understand legalese, and Senatease, but trades and taxes bore me to death. Dorgan again! Richard Burr has been stuck in the chair a lot, he must like it.
I am certain Mr. Byrd has more than one flag tie! At least it was not pink! LOL
My nephew made our Diocesan Newspaper with this:
Top Five Reasons I Love My Country
1. Freedom of Speech.
2. Freedom of Religion.
3. Freedom of Choice.
4. We live in a Democracy.
5. Our justice system is fair.
Well he is only 11, I may have to explore what he meant by choice, but I know he was appalled when he found out what abortion is. We may have to have a talk about the justice system as well! LOL. He also watches way to much Sports Center IMO.
Dingy!
LOL---His idea of Freedom of Choice, may mean "hamburger" or "cheeseburger"!
Dingy Harry bringing us the Daily Bush Bash! Calling him incompetent again! "Blah, blah, blah Bush is an idiot, blah, blah, blah."
What does China have to with Central America? He never stays on point. He pronounce his own, speech, use smaller words Senator. Has he ever proposed a positive bill? Just curious?
The response from our side should be interesting.
It had better mean Cheeseburger or hamburger!!!!
Finally a vote of CAFTA!
From what I hear, ole Harry is STILL calling our POTUS a LIAR! His habit of calling the POTUS a liar, is catching, I heard other senators today, saying that you can't believe what the President says....
But, if they aren't going to suffer any punishment for "disrespecting" the President of their own country, then I guess they will just keep doing it...
I think some of OUR Senators need to step up and and tell them to knock it off!
BTW, I wish I knew how to link to articles...I just read one on The Hill News site....made me SICK!
It seems that Sens. Warner, McCain, and Graham (recognize three of the Gang of 7?)---have gotten together and are drafting a bill to add to the defense appropriations bill---
THEY have decided (btw, Sen. Frist DID NOT know about this) to sponsor a bill setting up a NEW congressional committee to have oversight over Gitmo and other prison camps, so that "we won't have the bad things that have been happening and giving the US the bad reputation"....
I am SO furious!!! They said they want to TAKE the power for adjudicating these terrorists from the Pentagon, and give THEMSELVES the authority so that they will be sure the terrorists have counsel and a hearing, blah, blah, blah...
In other words, they are cutting the CIC and the Pentagon off at the knees---
Of course the article states that it is "probable" that the White HOuse isn't going to really like this too much, with all of the other changes, because of the 9/11 commission and such..and that the Pentagon isn't going to take kindly to them interfering in the Pentagon's business..
But, we have to remember that they are in the GANG of 14, that have decided that THEY will make the decisions and compromises,...not the majority that were VOTED IN!!!!
Whew, sorry I missed Sheets!
Mr.FF doesn't have to get up too early tomorrow morning (he can sleep in until 6:30am!) so he wanted to watch a movie. He's too cute for me to say no!
So I'm back to the senate for a while.
They are such idiots, especially McStooge!

This link may work!
They should re-play Byrd!
How DO you do that?
If you go to the site and click on the article, the link will appear in your address window, right click and select copy, then come back to post and right click and select paste.
McStooge was already censured at home, that is a good start, of course we are stuck with him for 5 1/2 more years!

I did what you said, and this is how it turned out!
Perfect!
I have 51-39 one this if I am accurate.
WOW---It looked different when it transferred than what it looked like posted on the thread....
NO wonder I have had problems, every time I have tried it, when it didn't look right when I was posting, I never hit the post, to see how it would show up...
YAY--Thanks so much for your help...
I think I heard on Brit's show tonight that the HOUSE didn't have enough votes to pass CAFTA...do you know if they have voted on this yet?
