John Kerry Reportedly To Present "Downing Street Memo" To Congress

June 5, 2005 7:36 a.m. EST

Douglas Maher - All Headline News Staff Reporter

Washington,D.C. (AHN)- After remaining almost silent since losing the 2004 election by thirty four electoral votes, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts is reportedly planning to to present Congress with The Downing Street Memo, reported last month by the London Times.

The memo purports to include minutes from a July 2002 meeting with Tony Blair, in which Blair allegedly said that President Bush's administration "fixed" intelligence on Iraq in order to justify the Iraqi war.

The Downing Street Memo is a leaked Top Secret document that details the minutes of a 2002 meeting between top-level British and American government officials.

The memo states that George Bush "was determined" to attack Iraq long before going to Congress with the matter, and that "the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

Rumblings across Washington and the Internet claim this is a step from Democrats towards impeachment of President Bush.

Fellow Democrat Rep. John Conyers of Michigan has issued a statement on the U.S. House of Representatives stating that he is seeking information regarding the meeting minutes.

"I am seeking information regarding the charges made in the so-called “Downing Street Minutes” that there was a secret agreement between the U.S. and the U..K to invade Iraq by the summer of 2002, well before the president sought congressional authority." Conyers said.

"Please provide us with any information or leads you might have regarding such a secret pre-war deal, or other efforts to manipulate intelligence or provoke a response to justify war. We will treat any information provided on this site as confidential. Thank you for your assistance in this important matter."

However, All Headline News has re-discovered that a bill signed by then President Clinton named "The Iraqi Liberation Act of 1998" gave President Bush all of the legal recourse necessary for the war.

Stating directly from the bill: "Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 - Declares that it should be the policy of the United States to seek to remove the Saddam Hussein regime from power in Iraq and to replace it with a democratic government. "

The H.R. 4655 law was signed into effect October 31,1998.

Republicans plan to issue a response to Senator Kerry by using his own words against him, a tactic used in the 2004 Election. Where Sen. Kerry was quoted as saying the war was justified and Saddam Hussein needed to be removed.

This is ridiculous: they have never released the memo, so there may be no memo; secondly, all the commissions of the Congress have claimed the White House didn't fixed the information; and thirdly, Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act in 1998.

If they generate hearings that drone on for six weeks, this will blossom on the MSM nightly news like leprosy. We'll be force fed what did GW know and when did he know it 24/7. That the premise is bogus makes no difference. Congress will have tv time to rant and rave, then they'll turn up on cable news, in print, magazines, newspapers. Imus and Perky Katie will have them on in the morning. Nighttime, they'll show up on Larry King.

They'll find a home on the BBC, NPR, Radio Pacific, and the usual suspects. (The BBC will welcome Hate Bush time as an antidote to Europe's demise.)Sooner or later, idiot fence sitters/soccer moms will mutter about where there's smoke, there's fire. It's reminiscent of the 6 to 9 months before Bush was renominated. How evil he was, dumb, stupid, cocaine addicted, drunk. The rest of the world hated us and it was his fault. Every democrat hammered away at the same line, and the polls, some bogus, showed them doing well in Nov. That's the only card they had and they played it nonstop. They're doing it again, and it's dangerous for the country and western civilization's survival. Amazing that they don't care.

Interesting, Fox this morning had a dem party activist woman on who moaned about Dean's comments alienating potential voters by insulting them. She said Soros and MoveonOrg had kidnapped the party, and that they had to get it back. Back room deals on the way.

Silent? Where have I been? Am I missing something?

Kerry will nuance this nonstop..."We needed to disarm Saddam, but my way, the UN way, with allies like France and Germany....." Predictable and boring, but he'll have MSM's encouragement and connivance.

They have crossed the line. They're foaming at the mouth and don't care. It'll be interesting to see how Hill plays this. So far, she's let the others make fools of themselves. But if she sees an opening, some issue like illegals invading, she'll make that hers. Kerry and the rest will play catch up.

How did Madame Hillary trick M. Kerry into doing this?

Whether or not this is the facts, it is a beautiful comment and observation that you made. Nice post and food for thought.

Don't worry, no CINO here. My post was a comment on Hill's attitude, and Kerry's possible candidacy, etc. (I live in MA, so Kerry and Fat Teddy are a public embarrassment), and that we'll see Hill on the cover of Time, Newsweek, etc., ad nauseam. Not that they have a snowball's chance...I'm simply stunned the dems don't even try to come up with sensible programs, ideas, etc.. Not to give them aid and comfort, but it's like watching something go down the drain. (Rush has mentioned this occasionally, by the way.)

I know, from reading your post that you are NOT a CINO.

It's the CINO's, on Free Republic, that I'm trying to wake up.

They just don't get it.

"They have crossed the line."

Yes and it is disgusting. Perhaps we need to point out that the liberals are underrepresented on the taxpaying roles and in the military...In other words they ain't paying for the war nor fighting it, so they should just stifle!!
