Congratulations Second Lieutenant Jurewicz on your graduation. God speed, son.
What an odd copyright date for this article.
That's always been a problem for the representatives of the state church of Sweden ~ the way "others" conduct religious observance. That's why anything she said should be totally discounted. And why is someone like that allowed into the US military anyway ~ her loyalties clearly lie elsewhere.
She felt violated.
I say that if she wanted voluntary services to follow the order of worship proscribed by the Swedish government she should go there.
No law means, of course, no law. Congress cannot therefore, in a law, or a regulation issued under its authority, differentiate between "official business", an "authorized congratulatory statement", or "proselytizing".
I can understand that people for whom "no" has no meaning might have trouble understanding that it is not the business of our government to differentiate between religious and any other kind of speech.
I emailed Mr. Weller, the writer of this article, on this very same point. He said that the First Amendment is interpreted as establishing a separation of church and state.
I emailed him back and said that the proper wording should have been "in violation of what SOME PEOPLE INTERPRET as the constitutional separation of church and state."
I then thought some more, and sent him another email. In it, I asked how he would describe, hypothetically, an email that contained quotes from 1 Corinthians 15. Would he say that the quotes made reference to "the resurrection of Jesus Christ," or to "what Christians believe was the resurrection of Christ"? I then told him that I believe more in the historicity of the resurrection than I do in the constitutionality of "separation of church and state."
I have yet to hear from him...
later pingout.
Yep, and where is our fearless President?
The President has absolutely no power to stop the nefarious anti-American activities of the ACLU. This can only be accomplished by the Judiciary acting at the bequest of an awakened American people.
Well, gee, maybe the Prez could help to "awaken" them.
