Best selling author Erica Jong was booed and told to 'Shut Up!' and 'Go Home!" during her 40 minute commencement address at the College of Staten Island.
A little less than halfway through her graduation speech, some graduated began tossing around an inflatable beach volleyball.
Some even got up from their chairs, just yards from the podium, to go chat with friends and family who were seated behind them.
Ms. Jong, best known for her 1973 novel 'Fear of Flying' continued unfazed. She continued to speak as if everyone was listening attentively.
'Politicans speak the opposite of what they mean. They say clear skies when they mean pollution, They say colleratal damage when they mean killing civillians.'
She gave a political spEech when she was supposed to be doing a pep talk, said one CSI graduate, whoever heard of a commencement speaker talking about body bags? We wanted to throw stuff at her.'
'It was despicable, said a CSI mother, 'It was personal spewing.'

It's become routine for colleges to invite commencement speakers like this -- a lacklustre assortment of airheads, criminals and political hacks. Many of them are booed, some just put everybody to sleep. Brokaw, Biden, Hedges, Abu, etal. Why anybody bothers to attend these spectacles is a mystery to me.
People want companionship and closeness. People want someone who is going to be their friend, lover, co-parent, and backup for life. Admittedly marriage isn't perfect, but it's worth a try. And it sure as hell beats hanging around with bitter feminists.

Sen. Patty Murray, the so-called mom-in-tennis-shoes from Washington State, did the same thing at WSU three year ago. Although no one yelled or booed, there were a lot of crossed arms and very little clapping.
Someone posted above that NYC's WLIB radio referred to Staten Island as 'Satan Island' because of the volume of conservative calls coming from there...lol!
yeah , my post #39 , the old WLIB was a HOOT , the wackjob conspiracy S**T while Koch and Dinkins were in was good,then Rudy, and the Crazies got so cranked,the station had to tone it down,plus they made more revenue on the Carib format
Changed some since I was a kid in the 30s on Amsterdam Ave. Sol Bloom was the Rep and I got one of his handout ink blotters. Broadway was the dividing line that separated apartment houses from tenaments. I don't know what is considered 'Upper West Side' today. We considered West of Broadway as the Gold Coast.
The leftists support their own by giving them hefty honorariums for easy work like giving a 30-minute speech - ever notice how people of REAL accomplishment are rarely paraded before the folks getting diplomas?
Imagine that, folks want to listen to relaxing Carribean music on WLIB more than terminally un-funny Al Franken!
Oh, I hate when they do this though. They did that at my graduation and the poor guy speaking was just talking about his own battle with cancer as a kind of "must be ready to face difficulties" pep talk, and the brats in front were tossing around a beachball. He had cancer, for God's sake! I just wish people would show more decorum.

Indeed. All these lefty loons should get the same treatment when they torment their captive audience.
I sat through my undergraduate commencement just to please my parents, who paid for the degree. But when I got the next degree ( which I paid for myself ) I told 'em to mail it to me.
