A lot of rappers swipe . . . er . . . sample riffs from famous songs.
But Vanilla Ice did it (almost) first, and did it very badly.

Maybe they went through a Car Wash in a convertible and stayed too long at the blowdryer section ?

Boy, is your info ever wrong! VH1 recently tried to do a comeback show with him and it was a disaster. He was not "good with money" and has been forced to tour the country, playing tiny venues and pretending he has street cred, when anyone wants to hear is "Ice Ice, Baby"...his only hit.

Speaking of one-hit wonders, where's Taco? ("Putting On The Ritz")

I don't recall that incident, although I do remember watching Todd Bridges box his ears of in a Celebrity boxing match on t.v. Very humiliating.....for all the contenders.
You can't stop a falling star from burning out.

All this really does is remind me of how embarrassing some of my taste in music was once upon a time.

Here's a homework assignment for everyone. Listen to these two songs, back to back:
Sister Sledge - The Greatest Dancer
Will Smith - Gettin' Jiggy Wit It
Compare and contrast.

Yes, a very funny little song.
I think he works as a Head Waiter in some fancy French restaurant now.

The baby is cute. But then babies are always cute.
My sisters wedding photo looks a little like that only circa 78. Platforms, cocoa colored leisure suit/tuxes with five inch lapels and mondo mullets.
What a fright.
I'm glad I was the photographer and not the photographee.
Here's a little song I wrote
While in the corner smoking dope.
Don't worry. Be a hophead. Here is my advice to you.
Though I'm just a lazy jiggaboo.
Don't worry. Be a hophead.
The landlord says the rent is late.
I'll just sit here and masturbate.
Don't worry. Be a hophead.
Woooooo..oooooooo...ooooooo....oooooo...
Don't worry. Be a hophead.

This is true, but Vanilla denied the accusation.
Artists will usually give credit when recording a section or riff of someones music into their track.

Taste in music is very subjective. A bit like taste in food. Get those old vinyl records out and dance away. There is no shame in listening to and enjoying "Safety Dance", just be aware of the neighbours reaction at playing it loud at midnight on a Friday evening...
To: Petronski
How many blockbuster movies has Sister Sledge been in? :-)

At least Smith transposed up a few steps to a different key.

Wang Chung had a number of hits, and they had a number of songs that made it into a bunch of successful movies. In fact they did the soundtrack to the movie "To Live and Die in LA," which IMHO is a pretty awesome movie. Absodamnlutely! Wang Chung is still exercising my Infinities regularly.
