What Reuters is doing is something of a byproduct of the President's claim that "Islam is a religion of peace".

If one follows Bush's statement to its "logical" conclusion, one *should* be outraged if this story is true.

On the other hand, one who understands the statement is a lie is quite legitimately unconcerned.

Not at all. We can be as angry as we want about this story, and the terrorists, but most Muslims aren't terrorists. Flame away, but it's the truth.

you bring up a good (actually bad) point.

i understand Bush has to play peace with the raggers but a little ecumenical pandering goes a long way.

Even if one takes Bush's statement to be true. It does not follow that anyone should be outraged by the report. The report, taken in its totality, supports the military contention that the Koran is treated with utmost respect. It actually proves how unbelieveably humane our treatment of these POW's has been. This becomes a tempest in a teapot.
Much of the present problem with Gitmo arises out of the American misconception, perpetuated by the media, that Gitmo is a prison. Our liberal courts enhance this view by advocating protection for these "criminals" under the American legal system, and all its due process assurances. The military is now in the position of having to prove that POW's actually participated in some perceived illegal activities.
If the detainees had on uniforms at the time of capture, and if we were fighting a recognizable enemy, not "terror", the simple reply to all this nonsense would be " We are holding these enemy soldiers until the war is over.". They are not criminals, they are enemy soldiers and as such have no rights of citizenship.
