Anti-war protests still look marginal (Counter Protestors in support of Bush)
Washington Times ^ | June 3, 2005 | Jenny Hatch

On Wednesday leaders of ANSWER -- the Act Now to Stop War and End Racism Coalition -- had a news conference at the National Press Club to announce plans for nationwide popular protests against the war in Iraq on Sept. 24. They said they expected at least 100,000 people to join them in protests in Washington, Los Angeles and other cities....

ANSWER hopes the Sept. 24 protest "will be the largest anti-war demonstrations to take place" since the president's re-election, its national coordinator Brian Becker said Wednesday....

Freepers,

we have lots of time to get ready for this one! If you haven't already, please put Sept 24th on your calendar and be ready to do some serious counter demonstrating!

I will be happy to organize the Denver event, if someone has not already volunteered.

Demonstrating against the war is stupid because the war is almost done. What would people think about me if I walked outside with a "Don't vote for Bush" sign? The people would think I am an idiot, because the election is already over.

Conservatives protest at the polls by voting. Liberals protest on the streets by showing how stupid they are.

I agree with you that voting is the best way to "demonstrate", but I Know it is a powerful thing to go and counter whatever is happening in terms of war protests. Even if just a few show up.

I believe it would be a powerful visual for all of our conspiracy minded leftist friends to see and count more COUNTER demonstrators at the various events they are planning than anti-war screamers. We have the time to properly plan and organize. It is just a matter of setting a time, a meeting place, and inviting friends and like minded people to attend.

Jenny

I think we should do it. I have organized several of these types of things

Well, not quite. We are 3 years into a 50 or 100 year war.

True, the shooting war Iraq is well on it's way to being done, and I think that may be what they are going to be demonstrating against. But we need the public to stay on the side of an offensive war.

Thanks for posting this.

The Wash Times is just one of 100+ Media Outlets [who] Report[ed] on Sept. 24 Demonstrations. If ANSWER can be believed. LOL

They also have, "over 3,000 endorsers [who] have signed on to the September 24 Call for United Mass Action." Again, if you wanna believe ANSWER.

tgslTakoma provided some very interesting info on ANSWER on this thread.

I'm gonna be in Wash DC on 9/24.

Thanks for the links, I figured these were marxist funded groups with communist leanings who were organizing the anti-war demos.

I may have to fly to DC on Sept 24th as it looks like they are only planning demonstrations in three cities. The DC one will be the one we should focus on.

Does anyone out East want to organize the counter demo at the white house? Or I should I start the wheels rolling???

Bump. I have no idea what I will be doing then. I swear the DOD plans my son's deployment dates around these things.
