A military dress uniform has always superceded any civilian dress clothing. It is proper as a substitute for formal and black tie events.

In this case the proper uniform is cap and gown. Why is that so hard for this Marine to accept? One would think that after boot camp he would know being in the proper uniform means.

You have it exactly wrong. It is NOT this young Marine who has the problem. He informed the principal that he would comply with the school regulations without any grab at publicity. It is the politically correct a**holes, the ultralib teachers who try to cover up their intolerance and bias by appealing to "fairness for 'all'" and the "civilian" nature of high school graduation!

What comes next? Giving the evil eye to any man or woman in uniform in any situation? Refusing to serve a man or woman in uniform when they enter a restaurant, etc.? Some of the comments here would sound better on DU than Free Republic!
