Parents notified that accused child molester worked at clinic

HOUSTON - The parents of 46 refugee children are being notified that an accused child molester worked at a Houston clinic where the children were treated.
The Harris County health department, which is issuing the notifications, said there is no evidence any of the children were harmed, spokeswoman Rita Obey said Thursday.
German Rojas Moreno, 43, was charged last month with molesting three boys. Authorities say he met some through St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Houston, where Moreno sang in a choir. Authorities said two other young men have since reported Moreno drugged and molested them.
Several of the boys were treated at Dynamic Healthcare Clinic in Houston, where Moreno worked as a physician's assistant, said Don Hecker, Moreno's attorney.
Dynamic Healthcare had a contract with the county to treat refugees. During the last months of 2004, the county health department sent 140 refugees to the clinic, including 46 children, Obey said.
The department is asking the refugees to see doctors at other clinics to determine if they were molested and to be re-examined because of questions of Moreno's credentials.
Moreno's native Costa Rica had issued him a physician's license, but he was not licensed in the United States, said Gus Pappas, the clinic's attorney.
So far, 10 children have been re-examined and have said they were not molested, Obey said.
The clinic's owner, Beatrice Molho, closed Dynamic Healthcare Tuesday. She had been thinking about relocating the clinic, but the negative publicity helped her with the final decision, Pappas said.
She may reopen the clinic in Sugar Land under a different name, he said.
