The liberal media has put W. Mark Felt on a pedestal, claiming that his role in Watergate was a catalyst for the fall of the Nixon administration ("Deep Throat Coughs It Up," June 1). Yet, during the Lewinsky scandal, these same individuals portrayed Linda Tripp as a tattletale and back stabber, in attempt to lessen the gravity of her information. Seems a bit hypocritical. Why did Felt hide his identity for 30 years? Because he knew that he had violated his oath of office at the FBI by leaking information to The Washington Post. He was ashamed of himself. Why, then, has he come forward now? For the quick buck of a book deal. I don't blame Felt, who is now too old and senile to know what he is doing. Not only did Felt intentionally wait 30 years for the statute of limitations to run out before telling his family, he didn't even have the decency to let Woodward and Bernstein break their own story. He gave the exclusive to another reporter. Felt played Woodward when he first dropped the dime on Nixon, and he played Woodward after 30 years of Woodward keeping his secret. If Felt were a true American hero who wanted to put a stop to government law-breaking, he would have tipped reporters to J. Edgar Hoover's many violations of citizens' civil rights, including the wiretapping of Martin Luther King. Besides his slavish fanaticism to his own self-serving ambitions, what was Felt's hidden agenda? It is no small consideration that the post-Nixon nation saw the horrific rise of liberalism---and the juggernaut to tolerate every idiocy the left wing could concoct. Felt's disturbing motivation was solely to satisfy his vainglorious ambitions, not the good of the country. No wonder Felt was passed over for promotion. The FBI had his number, alright. Any other agent would be prosecuted for violating his oath of loyalty to the USA as an FBI agent.

The MSM's arms are pretty sore from patting themselves on the back (again) for Watergate this week.

I sense, however, that the public is not as enthused with the Felt family as they are. There were polls on sites (including AOL, ABC, and CBS) that showed large percentages (as high as 48%) thought Felt was a "villain or traitor." Pretty strong stuff.

The Felt family has been so ham fisted in their approach to asking for "money that we deserve" it is mind boggling.

Bob Woodward was on TV and he was cringing when he was asked about the family's shameless demands for dollars. You could see the "journalistic pride" wash right out of his power tie.

I saw a clip of the media's stakeout of Bob-o when the story broke---of course the effete journo has always had a seemingly au natural self-effacing facade---but this time he looked downright sheepish when confronted with the Felts' crass attempts to cash-in.

It is no small consideration that the post-Nixon nation saw the horrific rise of liberalism---and the juggernaut to tolerate every idiocy the left wing could concoct.

Liberalism's best eras were FDR and the 1930s followed by the 1960s and LBJ. Ford served out the rest of Nixon's term followed by Jimmy Carter's disastrous four years. Reagan entered in 1980 and we have essentially been on a conservative roll ever since.

What needs re-examination is the lefts argument about FELT HIMSELF in 1980.

Miller had gone behind his back and ordered resumption of black bag jobs. A particular target was the elusive Weather Underground, a small band violently opposed to the Vietnam War. The bureau was frustrated because it couldn't locate Weather members, so it burgalarized the homes of relatives and friends in the hope of picking up clues. Felt and Miller's bootleg operation came to light in 1975, when Senator Frank Church's committee probed the "rogue elephant" tendencies of the intelligence agencies.

FBI Director Clarence Kelley , who had steadfastly insisted the burglaries had ceased in 1966, when Hoover ordered a halt, fumed "I was lied to" and conceded he couldn't guarantee that burglaries weren't still going on. In 1978 President Jimmy Carter's Justice Department obtained indictments against Felt and Miller for conspiring to violate the civil rights of the victims, and two years later they were convicted but spared jail sentences. In one of his first acts as president, Ronald Reagan pardoned the unrepentent pair.

I'd like to see some the the commentary over that.

Question:

Anybody know to whom Pat Buchanan was referring Wednesday night on the Scarborough show, when he said a previous high government official had provided reporters with FBI surveillance tapes of Martin Luther King --tapes which were extremely raw (in more than one sense) exposures of MLK in VERY comprising positions?

Buchanan said that although those reporters chose not to run the story, the fact remains that this official had illegally leaked sensitive FBI information to the press.

Buchanan said he was not going to reveal the name of the leaker becaue "it was too old and too long ago."

Who was this official? Robert Kennedy? J. Edgar Hoover? Lyndon Johnson?

Ha, ha, that's pretty good. Linda Tripp is bad because she went to the authorities, but Felt is good because he went to the media! It so happens that Felt WAS the authorities and that he was violating the law by leaking to the media.

Don't forget the bitterness of the MSM against the book, Unlimited Access: An FBI Agent Inside the Clinton White House by a retired FBI agent, Gary Aldrich.

The very few (one? ABC's Brinkley show) MSM outlets that permitted Mr. Aldrich to appear did so by greeting him with hostility and followed his appearance with Clintonoids screaming personal attacks.

I think it is easy to discern the difference between felt and Tripp. Tripp is a woman of moral conviction and just fortitude for her actions(non-criminal) Felt violated his oath as a federal agent by not using the proper channels for his complaint.(criminal actions) Felt is, was and will always be rememberd by sensible Americans as disgruntled backstabbing, non-integrity POS person who authorized criminal actions himself. The bottom line, Linda Tripp is a herion who did what was right and felt was just another traitorous, crybaby who was passed over for the Director's position in the FBI. The left has many heros and heroins and each one is no more than a (F Up) criminal who cares only for themselves. The left's mentality is to hell with America's best interest. NSNR

While many MSM'ers (sorry, most) are lionizing this guy as "a hero," someone who "did what he had to do," something big is being missed.

Our side has pointed out that he authorized/engineered illegal breakins himself...

And that he turned on the Whitehouse because he didn't get the top FBI job. Now think about that....

Felt became a snitch because he didn't get something he wanted! He was an opportunist, plain and simple (and it runs in the family, apparently, as they shamelessly say they urged the old man to do it so they could all get some money). Yeah, a real hero.

But here's what I haven't seen....

If they had made him the head of the FBI, he WOULD NOT have turned on the Whitehouse.

In fact, as head of the FBI....

HE WOULD HAVE HELPED THEM BURY WATERGATE!
