Yuriy Luzhkov switches cap to fur hat (papakha)
On Thursday in Moscow before the concert in honor of Chechen culture days at the national concert hall "Rossia," Moscow's mayor Yuriy Luzhkov promised to switch his cap to a fur hat, reports RIA News.
This reaction by the capital's boss was prompted by the gift given by Chechnya's president Allah Alkhanov. He presented the hat, a white cloak, and a statue of an eagle. In response, the mayor stated: "That's it, I am switching the cap to a fur hat."
"I should explain to my friends to whom we give fur hats in Chechnya," elaborated the Chechen president, stressing that he is giving the hat to Luzhkov as a patriot and as one who is honored in the nation.
The mayor of Moscow, in turn, presented Alkhanov with a green vase showing Georgy the Victorious. According to Luzhkov, the present symbolizes the intentions of both sides to fill the vessel with friendship and love and "furthermore so that nobody could ever break it."
The Chechen culture days will take place June 2nd - 4th, 2005. According to the deputy of culture minister of Chechnya, Adlan Mazhidov, the events were planned for October 2004, but the plans were postponed due to the events at Beslan in the beginning of September of 2004.
