I just want to be on the record here that the American public is not what the libs portray it as. WE APPRECIATE the guys in the field and we support those people. I know I do in my job.
Absolutely right, Raffus! Many thanks.
My Dad was a WWII vet, a paratrouper in the 82nd Airbourne. I knew he got a Purple Heart for almost getting his hand blown off with a grenade, I used to sneak up in the attic and look at his old uniforms and service pistol. I even found a parachute he brought back down in my basement one time. These were my only clues to his service because he would never talk about the war. When I asked him, he would change the subject or just refuse to talk about it.
I lost him ten years ago to cancer and when he died I made sure that his service was memorialized on his tombstone. It was only a couple years ago that I learned the truth.
I was fortunate enough to borrow "Band of Brothers" from a friend of mine and learned, by adding up dates and circumstances, a little of my father's history. It seems that he was part of the heroic group that rescued those that were surrounded for several months(including a torturous winter)in the hell we know as Bastogne.
It hit me like a ton of bricks and I cried for him. I cried for his humble heroics, his quiet dignity and the courage he never bragged about.
God Bless all our humble heroes. I love you, Dad.
