Ah memories...The graph below shows soil compation based on water content. I use to do these when I was in college for an engineering firm. Run the test on the natural moisture content, then add some water and run again, keep doing it till you peaked on the curve. The chart above has 5 points, I used to nail them in three and was given the name "Doctor Proctor" by the head lab rats.
