Back in the time when J. Edgar Hoover was hiring agents he definitely showed a bias for Roman Catholic candidates who were ALSO Lawyers or Accountants.

This was probably coincidental since the jobs in the biggest law firms and accountancy operations were simply not open to Catholics. Best way to get ahead, and maybe even establish one's self for a political future was to become an FBI agent.

Hoover got some very good people at bargain basement prices.

We sometimes forget that until quite recently "fibbies" have been exceedingly respected. May be why we hold their mistakes against them so harshly.

Now, is Felt's religious preference relevant? Probably not ~ unless he was a Moslem perhaps ~ then I'd be surprised. These guys were all interchangeable cogs, and the most cynical careerists always had the best shots at moving up to be assistant directors.
