Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.
If you cannot go after someone you do not like, you can always go after his relatives. It was done with Perot.
Why do you stay on a thread that is so upsetting to you?
I think Ken was asking if possibly the daughter is going out on her own, possibly without Mr. Felt's knowledge or consent. That would be wrong, even if you think she has a "right" to a slice of the $$ pie. I personally think she should be protecting him.
Wow, glad I don't live in Hildy's world.
And hey, who cares if they're OLD GUYS. Look at Pinochet!
Not as much as I am.
Being that he was the number two man at the FBI that would make him a member of the SES. Not your ordinary rank and file employee. I imagine the retirement is good but not even close to what someone in a large corporation at that level would have received. If you are really curious look up the old pay scale for his job at time of retirement, find out how many years he had as a Fed. and go from there. There are COLAs but they are small. I imagine he did quite well with post FBI employment. I happen to think he is a dirtbag because of all the bad things that came from Nixon resigning. But that was the whole purpose of the witch hunt. Hand SE Asia to the communists. Which is what happened.
You are a good guy. Your parents were very lucky to have you.:)
Dunno. However, I do have an aunt in her mid-70s and in good health. She converted her basement into living quarters for herself (her hubby died 10 years ago) and gave the regular living quarters of the house to her youngest daughter and family. Auntie is pleased with her living arrangements.
I suspect the children of Felt are taking as their due.
It isn't.
Just My Opinion
Most of the sources for the "dementia" story come from FR.
No, it was his daughter.
The June 1 issue of the News Virginian , " On The Trail Of The Secret Informant " by J Todd Foster is a very interesting read on the author's dealing with the daughter and father, when he was freelancing for People magazine a few years ago.
The deal with People fell through when the daughter and the family lawyer demanded " a lot of money."
"He was very impaired, and I thought he was dying," his daughter, Joan, told my writing partner.
" Felt soon moved into his daughter's basement. He was unhappy at the convalescent home and hard to manage by staff. He even spent all afternoon one day trying to reach the FBI, where he had retired more than 30 years earlier."
" He had dementia. And memory loss," his daughter said.
"He was extremely confused. He was up in the middle of the night [at the convalescent home], knocking on people's doors, thinking that he was doing investigations for the bureau."
Foster quotes occasions where his writing partner interviewed Felt and Felt denied being DT, denied knowing Woodward, thought DT was a fictional character, etc. Albeit after the stroke , but, he appeared lucid.
The daughter tells the authors that her father is mentally impaired. But, then urges him to admit that he is DT when she is trying to sell his story to People and Harper Collins.
I find this troubling :
" It was only after prodding and coaching from his daughter and the family's attorney, John O'Connor of San Francisco, that Felt even gave his lukewarm admission."
I thought I read he was on a $150,000 a year pension. Is that possible?
I have to agree with you. The daughter may be a 'saint' for caring for her father, but it does look like she has a monetary motive. I guess her dad won't be around much longer and she needs to guarantee her future support. I don't think it is unfair for some of us to 'judge' her motives, after all she is the one creating the media circus. She is fair game for the critics here on FR.
Sorry, Hildy, this time I disagree; whatever Felt's motives, the daughter, Joan, was positively GIDDY in the first interviews.
I'm sure she thinks her father is a hero, but there is nothing honorable about the way she is behaving. She sure has a poor way of showing her respect for him.
I still want to hear it from a doctor about whether or not this guy is "demented".
I don't think so, for one reason the FBI klown Hansen who sold info to the KGB is receiving his full retirement which goes to his family. I know that the dems wanted to take away Ollie North's military retired pay and failed in their attempt. If I am wrong, I do not mind being corrected. NSNR
Good point Liz. Another of the left's hero-zero's trying to seek some unprofessional glory. Hell! what can we expect from an idiot like felt and family. NSNR
I don't know if these links may help ...

Do you think Klintoon should have resigned for pejury+numerous other criminal acts? Nixon was man enough to do the right thing, however klintoon hid under hillary's pant suit. NSNR
I will bet she is thinking, "Hollywood I am back" Yes!!!!! NSNR
