Hartford Convention Center Opens (Connecticut)
The Hartford Courant - courant.com ^ | June 2, 2005 - 12:25 PM EDT | Hartford Courant/News Channel 8

What was once an architect's sketch is now a reality for Connecticut. This morning in Hartford the Connecticut Convention Center opened its doors, ready to welcome the crowds.

This massive building sits on the eastern-most edge of downtown Hartford, next to I-91, and it's tough to miss.

Governor Jodi Rell and Mayor Eddie Perez cut the ribbon around 9 a.m. More than 5,000 visitors and invited guests are expected throughout the day.

The first major event is the Connecticut Business Xpo 2005. Several other organizations will hold opening day events all day long.

The construction cost of the convention center is $271 million. The building is 540,000 square feet; it includes a 10-story glass atrium, more than 200,000 square feet of meeting space and beautiful views of the city and the Connecticut River.

>>snip<<

There will be an open house on Sunday from eleven to four.

As a former resident of CT, born there and left there in 1995. The state, the politics, cities of Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford and the rest of sewers, taught me a few things. The most important how and why you should carry a concealed handgun.

LOL, I left two years before you and learned the same lesson. Unfortunately two of the states I lived in since did not allow concealed weapons (well, unless you are rich-n-famous here in Cali).

Well, just a pic or two of the Center would be cool. I followed the link to the Courant but all they have are interior pics.

The biggest upcoming event planned for the CC is a hugh gathering of North American Muslims -- thousands upon thousands of them. That ought to do wonders for the saloon trade. (/s)

I don't know about him, but they do have Kristen Cusato, a really nasty {w}itchy {w}itch who is a stuck up snobby {w}itch, yankees fan liberal {w}itch who tends to be rather {w}itchy on in the mornings.

(I had to edit that, otherwise it would have been pulled. )
