Beer gets "skunky" because of exposure to ultraviolet light; it has nothing to do with age. Properly brewed strong beer is good in the bottle for decades, as long as the bottler was sanitary.

Beer gets "skunky" because of exposure to ultraviolet light... I discovered this fact during a camping trip when we put the bottles into a mountain stream to cool. It all turned skunky, but we drank it anyway.
