My husband and I had been considering taking a trip to Aruba. If the law enforecement/security situation is as bad as it sounds on this thread, I guess we'll go somewhere else.
The government knows where their bread is buttered. They come down really hard on any locals who present problems to tourists.
Plus, the people are just naturally extremely friendly and warm-natured.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Aruba. The resort beaches are wonderful, the people were nice, the weather is not to be believed it's so perfect ALL the time. (Just no need to tour the north side of the island unless you like dust and volcanic caves.)
It's supposed to be one of the safest islands to visit. One of my mom's friends sent her daughter there with all her school buddies with no problems.
If you are interesdted in vacationing in the Caribbean, try cruising to a lot of places, then focus on one to re-visit.
We just cruise, these days, since the food is great, and Celebrity really does treat us well...
We arrived early in the cool part of the day, but it got up close to 100 IN NOVEMBER! Yet, we found the place great, and NEVER felt fear of anybody...
Go, and enjoy! The natural bridge is on the north shore, and is about the only thing to see there, other than an old stone fort...
