- The San Francisco 49ers' humiliation over their sex-drenched "training" video was a public-relations disaster that the team had plenty of time to see coming.
But, coincidentally or not, it wasn't until the time that a "Deep Throat" mailed the explosive tape to The Chronicle and the San Francisco mayor's office -- and threatened to send it along to the National Football League -- that the team got off the dime.
Five long months passed from when owner John York saw a piece of the video until the day the team decided to take disciplinary action against public-relations head Kirk Reynolds, the tape's author and star. Even then, the 49ers bent over backward, keeping Reynolds' pending exit -- and any word of the video -- quiet until he could find another job.
The lid was finally pried open a few days ago when someone started sending out copies of the tape, with its racist depictions of Asians, an adults-only lesbian "wedding" and Reynolds himself cavorting with scantily clad strippers.

Can't stand what York has done to that team.
Unnngh
If you can't look around and point at the Fall Guy, it's probably you.
I don't get it. What's the problem here?
Wow. The 49ers went 2-14?!? I guess there is a problem!
anyone have a link to the video??
Just imagine if the Steelers, Patriots, Titans, Broncos, or Cowboys had put this tape together and it got out. Heads would roll. I hope none of the other 31 teams has done one of THESE vids. What was the Niner pr department thinking? If this was supposed to be about pc and media relations, well they surely fumbled that big time. Let's see how the Niners will be treated by the media, (outside of San Francisco) cover this. It will be interesting.
I find what San Francisco has done to America much more humiliating.
I am embarrassed now and am not likely ever to mention that name again the rest of my life.
Why am I surprised? San Francisco? A good and rational question. I suppose there is such a thing as subconscious denial.
He added that the version of the tape York saw did not include the skit making fun of Asians, which Singer called "truly reprehensible." I'd feel bad if I was Asian and a team official was calling me "truly reprehensible" or maybe he was lamenting the fact that York didn't get to see that scene, it could read either way.
(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
Mailed the tape only? Completely out of context.
I bet the New Orleans Saints are mad they didn't think of this first
