TAMPA, Fla. -- In an attack that's rattled even veteran detectives, police in Florida said a 7-year-old boy has confessed to beating his baby sister to death.
Investigators said the boy was jealous of the attention the infant was getting and upset by her crying. They said the boy beat the baby with his fists, feet and a two-by-four.
The attack occurred in Tampa, while the boy was visiting his father.
Police said the father and his girlfriend were outside with neighbors when the boy came out and told them the baby was "bleeding." They said the seven-month-old had a bloody nose, and wasn't breathing. The parents rushed the baby to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A spokesman said detectives noted they'd never seen someone so young "show so much violence and so little remorse."
Moral Absolutes Ping.
Does anyone see a pattern here? So many articles about children killing children - or their parents. Notice the miserable family picture. Or rather non-family. Merely rutting animals, actually many animal families are more devoted and "human" than this.
When families are destroyed, when lifelong faithful monogamy is considered a useless quaint habit from the past, when illicit sex is considered practically mandatory, when children are considered a burden, this is what happens. Add to that highly violent and immoral "entertainment" and high rates of drug use, and this is what we get.*
Human beings utterly destroyed before they even reach adolescence.
If people were taught that the 10 Commandments were the basic rules for human behavior, what would be the harm?
Let me know if you want on/off this pinglist.
*Add to the list the cultural understanding that there is no such thing as humans possessing an eternal soul, God as a Supreme Person does not exist, and there is no eternal justice or transcendent meaning and purpose to life, and voila!
After reading the story earlier in the week about the bride who was gang-raped on her wedding night by the grooms friends, & endorsed by his parents, I thought I had seen it all! Now this. How very, very sad! Life has become so cheap!
thank you.....it is ironic I am reading this story today as we are going through some similar displays of anger in my husbands children. His ex-wife now pregnant with #5 just keeps having them to raise themselves. And the courts are mostly for women, the sad thing is, women know it and take advantage of it. (not all, but it seems to be getting worse)I have seen what my husband has gone through with his ex just to see the kids.....it is discouraging.
First of all, the Left, like Shalala, has an ulterior motive - The destruction of the family by making every parent a suspect. In the last 15 years, parental rights have disintagrated. In my view, this is largely due to rare, extreme cases that are blown out of proportion by the press. After that, it is much easier for the nanny state proponents to pass new laws.
Second, look at the numbers you quoted. Do they make sense to you? 1.4 million to 2.8 million in 7 years? Even accounting for population increases, something is not right with those numbers. How were they defining "neglect" in 1986 versus 1993? How do they define it now? (As an aside, I grew up in the 70's. Under today's rules, I would have been long gone into foster care - just on the seatbelt laws alone).
True child abuse is horrific and should be punished to the full extent of the law. However, we should never let the exceptions be the justification for new laws that remove our freedoms. One thing that contributes to that happening is hysteria.
It only took 67 posts to get there. I read these threads and am always amazed that every possible, conceivable reason for these atrocities gets stated and restated without ever getting to this thought.
If this phenomenon would be "studied" instead of the mating habits of a gnat, we may begin to solve the problem.
You are right of course. I'm not assigning blame to just the father, but also to who knows what is going on in the mothers home.
What we do know is the child acted out these problems in the worst possible way.
Obviously the father (and girl friend) were not watching either child, which leads us to believe they were more concerned with what activities they were doing than about the well-being of they kids they were responsible for.
And who turned him into an animal? Unless he's got a purely physical/chemical reason for his actions then someone, probably a parent, caused him to be the way he is. Do you not believe that if he is taught what he should have been taught from birth that he can change? If he hasn't been taught right how is he to know right? Is he to be put to death because of the sins of his parents?
So it is a conspiracy? Wow Pete, that is interesting. Good bye now.
And to be honest who knows if the parents are telling the whole truth concerning the events that led up to this. We could always say the answer is to not marry for fear of divorce...but honestly we can never for see what will happen. My daughter is 17 and comes from a happily divorced home, sure I don't like her dad, but I have never more than just stated that simple fact to her. So I think it is deeper than just divorce here. Sometimes when people do know what's going on in the home and call, nothing is done, more times than not. Do you know they call before they come out to check up, or when they come out the parent is not authorized to open the door...so what can you really do even if you want to? It's sad I tell you.
Are you going to put down all kids with autism, pre-natal cocaine exposure, alcohol fetal syndrome or all the other horrendous things that happen to children to make them into damaged goods because they react the way fate made them or somebody twisted them into?
What an odd reply...as if no one in politics has an agenda.
You really consider the situation you described as being a "stable" family???
The article is about a 7 year-old BOY. Are you referring to the 9 year-old girl who killed her 11 year-old friend?
Too many stories, too little time.
I'm not looking to start a racial war. Posting something that shows blacks are more prone to be a homocide victim isn't going to help this discussion. Why not ask for it to be removed.
I also agree with the other posters that you just do not leave a baby alone with a 7 year-old, no matter how responsible he or she may be.
"Is he to be put to death because of the sins of his parents? "
The parents didn't violently beat their infant child to death with fists, feet and a 2x4.
The parents may be partially responsible for influencing the overall behavior of their child but they are by no means responsible for that individuals act of murdering his baby sister.
Responsibility always lies with the one who commits the act. In this case it is a 7 year old child...not the parents.
Yes Pete, your reply was odd. Keep thinking things are great and that the violence statistics are made up. We are in serious moral decline and without conscience or fear of retribution (in eternal terms) a. k. a. HELL, things will get worse. It is out there, pretending that it is simply politicians' way of taking away our rights is extremely dangerous. So yes, your response was odd...
I didn't create the data. I simply posted the data from the US Department of Justice site. That's the graph they had for infanticide rates.
Why would I ask for it to be removed, for heaven's sake?
doesn't seem to deal with children killing children. It covers parents killing children.
It does mention 'other family' but from reading the page it looks like it deals with adults.
Beautiful.
We should not confuse a "stable 2-parent (mom & dad) family" with an "unstable 2-parent family (multiples and variables)"
You obviously will not and we should all be so lucky;)
Thank you,
