Indeed - the most fiercely anti-divorce person I know (and the most resentful of abandoning spouses) is the child of a broken home. His Mom made a lady friend who suckered her into the whole early 1970s feminist worldview - she soon decided she wanted 'more' and abandoned her hubby and family for the fulfilling world of work.

The son to this day hates her for it, and belittles his dad for being a wimp about it and letting her go without a fight. I don't blame dad, actually - anytime a chick in my life protests that she wants out, I say 'there's the door, hit the bricks' and move on. :-)

I share your attitude on the open door policy. Nevertheless, there's quite a gap between stoning and the finger wagging you prescribe. There's something wrong with *you* if you think violating a contract should be essentially penalty free.
