"...Ultimately the story died because of money. The Felt family and their attorney wanted a lot of money, and People magazine - with my blessing - backed away in what would have been a case of "checkbook journalism."
In some Kennedy Assasination book there is a picture of the tramps from the bridge by the grassy knoll. The author thinks one of them looks like Howard Hunt, and I think links Hunt to Cuba and Mexico and Oswald's visit to Mexico.
And, in one of Nixon's tapes Nixon say's something about not disclosing anything about the Watergate breaking 'cuz it will unravel "the whole Cuba thing" or some such words. (Many of the dirty-tricks operatives were Cubans that Liddy knew from his FBI days as I recall.
I always wondered if that was a reference to something to do with Castro or with Kennedy or what?
This sordid collection of 60's journalists, swingers, drug users, CIA spies and wannabee spies are arrogant beyond belief. Is this the "shadow government" we have heard so much about? And is it possible to get presidential candidates who haven't been chosen beforehand by the elite media?
That quote from Kathryn Graham is VERY telling. "when the press can decided to print what it knows."
Daniel Ellsworth also comes to mind. The WP was too high and mighty. Covered for JFK... Camelot you know.
That is exactly what Pat Buchanan said tonight on MSNBC. I don't agree with him about much but I certainly agree with him about that!
Camelot my rear! Drugs, sex and who knows what else went on. It makes me so angry they covered for that bunch of corrupt people. Now they are trying to trash a good man like President Bush. GAG!
Bradlee personally knew about the "drugs" JKF was taking --- never mind that they were by presciption --- JFK was a drug addict and that alone distorted his thinking, rendering him unfit for the office of POTUS. Damn Bradlee and the rest of the DC press who knew damn well that the man was a pig, a drug addict, a CINO and in poor physical health. Camelot my aching you know what.
The DC press and the networks have been democrat cheerleaders as far back as I can recall. It is no wonder at all, how the House was able to maintain it's 40+ years of democrat control.
I am going back to bed before I get too mad too sleep.
J. Todd Foster, managing editor of The News-Virginian of Waynesboro, said that in 2003, after being frustrated in their efforts to persuade Mr. Woodward to cooperate, the Felt family had come to him - about six months after he had approached them on his own hunch that Mr. Felt was Deep Throat - to propose a collaboration. At the time, Mr. Foster was a contributor to People, which he said considered but rejected an article because the Felts wanted payment.
"This was always about the money, and they were very up front with me," he said in a telephone interview.

Thanks for the links.
Nixon's daughters are two ladies, who will probably not talk nor comment about this.
Maybe David will make some statements.
This is said in jest and with due kindness................. but, you are always arguing.
It is an essential to your personality and adds to your ever lasting charm.
;-)
Thanks for the ping, prairie. Felt has also denied several times in different (and convincing ways) that he is not Deep Throat.
I saw that clip on TV this morning. I likened it to parading a sick, old circus animal around so folks could gawk for a moment and if people wanted to know more, they would have to "pay for it".
I do have an issue with a man that didn't have the stones to do as Peggy Noonan alluded to - quit your job, call a press conference and explain to the world what you believe is going on. Instead, the guy had no stones to stand on his convictions, his beliefs.
I don't have an issue with people writing books and making money. But now that it comes out that the daughter is pushing her father to make some bucks "for the family", it just seems slimy.
You are very welcome. Thank you for reminding me to ping backhoe.

Decades ago a political mentor/friend felt that the elite liberal mediots on the East Coast (NY City to DC) controlled the Democrat Party.
Below is a reply that I made earlier on this thread to Howlin, where I mentioned this.
To: Howlin
James Angleton.
John Kennedy.
Phillip Graham.
Richard Helms.
Howard Hunt.
This is just unreal.
When I read things like this, I think of a mentor who died years ago. He felt that the elite of the Media controlled the Democrats. The MSM elites could elect a no body to become president or destroy anyone they wanted to. He all ways felt that Watergate and the resignation of Nixon was manipulatied by these MSM elites.

I suppose he denied it because the WashPo told him he needed to wait until the "time was right". I've read somewhere this morning they supposedly told him that.
Now, what would make right now the "right time"?? Taking a little heat off Newsweek? Diverting attention from judicial filibustering and the Gang of 14?
I haven't been able to keep up with this story this week and will probably never get totally caught up, but it hasn't escaped notice that Bernstein has been more silent than Woodward, that Felt isn't quite the hero the left would like us to believe, and that money has played a role in the Felt family outting him.
According to today's NYT, Judith Regan turned down a book deal because of serious concerns about whether or not Mr. Felt is now suffering from dementia.
