It has been a while since I posted on FR. I thought I would post the latest offering of my good friend Ben Stein.

Some may agree or disagree but what Ben does do is get us to thinking of what it is that we believe in and if anyone should have an opinion of these event's it would be of our friend Ben.

Nixon, like Bush II was a true moderate.

The degree of invective and hatred aimed at these men by the far left extremists of the Democrat Party and their fellow travellers on the Federal benches, academia, the media and the liberal mainstream churches is just an indication of how very far America, or at least THEIR vision of America, has strayed from that of the founding fathers.

I hated Nixon,but for reasons that have nothing to do with politics.

I remember the day he left office as if were yesterday and he was saying good bye to the White House staff and then got into a dissertation about how wonderful his mother was and not one word about Pat,who was standing beside him with that frozen smile on her face.

I realize this thread is about Nixon the president,not Nixon the husband,but I'll never forget the look on her face.His insensitivity to that wonderful,loyal wife,astonished me.

Powerful missive from Ben. One thing though: "He lied to protect his subordinates who were covering up a ridiculous burglary that no one to this date has any clue about its purpose." Actually, the medical records of an opponent and subsequent insider info were the reasons for the break-ins, if memory serves.

Can anyone even remember now what Nixon did that was so terrible? ...sure - he tried to use the FBI to cover up the misdeeds of his former WH plumbers - except the famous "smoking gun" transcript shows that it was the infamous John Dean who in fact suggested that the breakin was the work of the CIA and maybe the FBI should not look too closely at what had happened, to which NIxon replied "I'm not sure what happened, but if it was the CIA make sure the FBI stays out of it" - imagine how easily that could have been made to disappear by today's spinmeisters........

Rush read this today on his show (Ben Stein makes some excellent points here). Rush said what the media did to Nixon they want(ed) to do to GWB. If it weren't for other sources of news today, they would have succeeded too. They tried a number of times beginning with the National Guard story.
