"Noting recent political successes of social conservatives, Frederick Clarkson lamented that "the people who are best at democracy are the people who are dedicated to ending democracy."

Hint:Having the courts do rulings like Roe v. Wade is not "democracy".

"I think it's time to get one million people on the streets" of Washington to "shut down the government."

Good. The less government the better. Won't stop the war, though.

You mean you don't have lots of these "churches" around you?

Actually, only the Methodists. I live in Alabama. We don't suffer very much of their crap....

Ukrainian Orthodox Church of America

Sheesh. This is my Father's (God rest his soul) old church. I have a call in to the priest. I hope there's some sort of misunderstanding.

My take on the Eastern Orthodox churches in the NCC is they're searching for respectability in the West, where they believe they are not sufficiently known or appreciated. They want to be "players," to have a seat at the table. It doesn't necessarily mean they agree with all the NCC pronouncements.

Good grief!! I live in Iowa and it's a wonder we were a Red State with all the NCC churches around here. I can't say the Catholic churches can be trusted to be any better.

The problem is they used to be very good Bible-based churches but they've evolved so slowly over the years the sheeple don't have a clue what has happened to them. They like being ignorant.

I know a number of United Methodist Ministers and they are all fire and brimstone and very conservative. I think some of the mainline churches are very different in the South as compared to the North.

As far as your teenage daughters church, this is probably the way of the future. I see it in our kids and the music they listen to.

Me, although a Southern Baptist, I am sort of a closet Charismatic.

Also the truth of the gospel sears their conciouses so much they cannot stand it. As is says in John. Those who are in the light shall be children of light. Those who are in darkness avoid the light lest their deeds be reproved.

And if you pay taxes in America some of your money is going to support the United Nations; aid to the Palestinians, etc. So?

Do the good run away or stand and fight for what is right?

There is no utopia. The NT Churches were hardly bastions of morality or doctrinal purity - it is no different today. The visible Church is always a mixture of wheat and tares; truth and error.

With all due respect, I prefer to remain in the communion of my birth and baptism, working for the good and opposing error.

It doesn't matter to me how my 17 year old gets it, just so she gets it. This youth church is a really a rock concert, complete with light shows, and - of course - the big video screen. If my 23 year old had been subjected to this youth church she might not have become an agnostic - someone who is also afraid of God and Christianity.

What kind of freaks me out is the big video screen showing the words of the "new age" hymns with the little red bouncy ball bouncing over each word.

Whatever, isn't it the same Christianity, whether with light shows and video screens and folks in izod shirts and khakis, or with Bibles and people dressed in their finest?

"Miller also appeared to indicate his support for a revolution, provoking applause by saying, "It's going to take what it took in the Soviet Union, Venezuela, Ukraine, and this country hundreds of years ago."

We have all the guns, idiot. But please, feel free to try.
