Promise Keepers defends Christian men's rally
Associated Press ^ | June 1, 2005 | David Hammer

Leaders of the national Christian men's ministry the Promise Keepers decried the "feminization of men" in response to allegations that the group is sexist and anti-gay, as well as defended their plans to rally at the University of Arkansas' taxpayer-financed stadium.

"Men break out with feminine attitudes; they've been feminized," the Rev. Robert Smith, senior pastor of Total Outreach for Christ Ministries in Little Rock, said Tuesday on behalf of Denver-based Promise Keepers Christian ministry. "They're not being a man for their women. There's an Eve in every man until it's taken out."

Smith and Steve Chavis, Promise Keepers' national spokesman, were in Little Rock to address plans by the National Organization for Women to hold a counter-rally to protest the June 10-11 Promise Keepers event at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

Promise Keepers says that, for the $89 price of admission, men are taught to be both servants and leaders to their wives in the way that Jesus was a servant and leader to the church.

I could see my husband going to something like that.

"The Promise Keepers is an organization that is putting a vision and a mission out there to pull men back to a patriarchal stance," Dietzel said. "This is how we see it. The notion of putting women back in their place."

What is wrong with that?

Are there REALLY still men who do the marriage thing?

Yes, 'ccc' there still real men. It's quite the experience to attend any PK conference and absorb the 'spirit' the 'earnestness', the humilty of +22,000 men. Men of all ages, all races, nationalities praising, worshiping, singing as one 'manly' voice. Men striving to further their commitment to marriage...to honor their wives as set forth in Ephesians.

I know. I get peeved that the media always goes to this group when they want a "woman's" perspective. It's like going to Richard Simmons to discuss drill bits.

Bwhaaaahhhahahah..... Millee....you are funny!!! Thanks for the laugh, I needed it!

There's still a lot of us out there like your dad. Keep looking and you'll find 'em.

I'm not a real fan of PK for doctrinal reasons but I admire them for championing real manhood.

I guess they're supposed to cower and grovel at the accusation of being anti-gay, apologizing all over the place and begging forgiveness! They ought to say, "Yeah, you're darned right we're anti-gay behavior! We follow the Bible. Next question?" Same thing with "racist" or "sexist" or any of these other names the left throws at us. I wish people would stop apologizing and trembling at being called those names. We ought to just laugh when people call us that. Then the names will lose their sting.

I dunno CCC, I'm with you. I say they are as scarce as an octopus living in the middle of the Sonoran Desert.

I dont' know about your dad, but mine was a staunch, hard-headed conservative, honorable, married to one woman only (Mom)....and had the looks of Tom Cruise!

Must have to do with where you live. In my part of town, with few exceptions, the men I know are strong, honorable, honest and extremely family oriented.

This attitude is much stronger among the guys at my church, but most of the guys I work with are similar.

Must have to do with where you live.

I had that feeling of that when I lived (and grew up) in Southern California. All the guys I wanted to date, lived somewhere else (no less than 400 miles away.)

Finally, a gay guy told me, "you're too nice of a girl to be living in So. Cal." That was 1992.

Moved to AZ. I've met four I really wanted to go out with since moving here, dated only one of them. And that was 10 years ago.

Some things are just not meant to happen. And I meet many new people daily in my work (and regular time) so it isn't a matter of "getting out there.".

I draw the line on dating services, on-line stuff, "singles" groups. No way. I'd rather stay single than post the "ad" if you know what I mean. :)
