tripp is more heroic than felt - she didnt' hide her identity, she was lower on the totem pole thus more vulnerable, and she was pushed into her actions by the clinton white house.

if the democrats had anyone with the conscience of felt, or the backbone, then clinton would have been long gone. that says more good things about republican ethics than democrat.

there is no democrat john dean. had there been, hillary would not be in the senate poised to become prez.

Tripp did exactly what someone in her position should have done. If not for a goofy Maryland law, there wouldn't have been any issue of legality.

Felt broke a number of laws (statute of limitations is long gone) including leaking FBI files. He had the power to act on his information. He could have gone to his boss. If he didn't trust him, then Congress. Failing that, he should have gone public and resigned.

The great hero Deep Throat turned out to be a disgruntled bureaucrat who acted cowardly and criminally. Funny, Nixon has more integrity now than

• Al Gore -- he didn't contest the 1960 election
• Bill Clinton -- he resigned for the sake of the country
• Mark Felt -- Nixon's lawbreaking was much less far-reaching.

I wouldn't call either of those two "heroes." Tripp secretly taped a young girl who thought Tripp was a friend. Disgusting. I hated Clinton, but I would not touch Tripp with a ten foot pole. Ben Stein's article sums up my thoughts on Felt.
