Robbie Gordon of NASCAR Will Not Drive IRL Races Against Danica Patrick, Citing Weight Advantage

Robbie Gordon of NASCAR started the discussion, saying that he wouldn't drive in the Indy Car Racing League series until they do something about Danica Patrick's weight 'advantage.'

'The lighter the car, the faster it goes,' Gordon said. 'Do the math. Put her in the car at her weight, then put me or Tony Stewart in the car at 200 pounds and our cars are at least 100 pounds heavier.'

'I wont race against her until the IRL does something to take that advantage away.'

I glanced at the weight of the weight of the drivers in the Indy Car Series. They are pretty much smallish guys --between 140 and 155 lbs.

He seems to be willing to race against guys who are about 60 pounds less and had no problem with it before.

The announcers said that Danica ran out of fuel on the last lap, so it was a certainty he wasn't going to make it all the way.

How come they don't have free re-fuels during cautions in Indy Car? (with the driver retaining position)

A hundred pounds is a huge amount of weight in an Indy car. All one needs to do is measure the difference in speed between a fully fueled car, and a car running low on fuel to see the difference.

That being said, Robbie Gordon is acting like a fool and not helping his team at all. He needs to get over it and do the job he was hired to do.

According to media reports, Danica's crew was telling her to go slower from 226mph to 221 at the end to conserve fuel.

I guess she needed more caution laps...

I can't think of any racing organization that gives a free re-fuel like that. Not short track, F1, Nascar, Indy, SCORE off road racing, kart racing, etc. Pit strategy is part of the race

Nothin's free in Indy car.

She took a chance on fuel because it was her only chance to stay out front. She caused a small wreck under yellow and had to pit off sequence. So to make up for it, she had to stay out and take a chance on fuel.

When I ran sprints, midgets & mini sprints, we were always weighed with the car. Are CART & IRL different than USAC, from which both were spawned?

You can pit, but you do not maintain track position. If you are real slow, you may lose a lap.

Indy Car Racing League is where someone weighing less than 100 lbs, no experience (rookie), and runs other million dollar cars off the track, CAN LEAD THE RACE. I'll take NASCAR any day over this.
