'The Oslo Syndrome’--The West has some VERY serious problems, folks
Jewish World Review ^ | 6-1-05 | Frank J. Gaffney

Last week, the President of the United States effusively praised Mahmoud Abbas, Yasser Arafat's right-hand man for some forty years. In the White House Rose Garden, Mr. Bush described Abbas as a "man of courage," explaining that he takes "great faith in not only [Abbas'] personal character, but the fact that he campaigned on a platform of peace — he said, 'Vote for me, I am for peace.' And the Palestinians voted overwhelmingly to support him."

In light of what is actually happening in the proto-state Abbas (a.k.a. Abu Mazen) was elected last January to govern, such characterizations seem at best to be wishful thinking, at worst willful and dangerous self-delusion. As a new web ad produced by my organization makes clear, if the Palestinian people truly want peace, there is very little evidence that they are moving in that direction under Abu Mazen.

To the contary, terrorist organizations are not being dismantled by Abbas. Instead, groups like Hamas with the avowed mission of destroying Israel are ascendant. They are winning local elections and taking full advantage of the "hudna" (temporary suspension of hostilities) to rebuild their offensive capabilities against Israel.

Hamas and other terrorists are being integrated into Palestinian security forces, receiving valuable training and even arms from American and European personnel. In addition, burgeoning quantities of ever-more powerful weapons are being smuggled into Gaza from Egypt.

Meanwhile, Palestinians are being encouraged by official imams whose sermons are broadcast on Abbas-controlled media to kill Jews and destroy America. For example, less than two weeks before Mr. Bush welcomed Abu Mazen to the White House, Sheik Ibrahim Mudeiris claimed on Palestinian Authority TV that history showed the torture, exile and murder of Jews to be legitimate and the Muslim conquest of the United States inevitable.

Since the Pals have been cast as the "victims" and "underdogs" of US and Israeli power for decades by the UN and the EU, this will be a final test.

If they really want a state, and work to make it viable, so be it, but they will not, and their victimhoood status goes down the drain, (which is too bad for those who really want a civilzed future).

A new state run by terrorists is easier to attack than the refugee camp it is now.

Bush does not trust them, no way.

You are absolutely correct. It is a final test. However, the sad cost of the political calculus is how many innocent Israelis will yet have to die in terrorist attacks..I'd surmise that the majority of Palestinians would like a peaceful, unarmed state. They would greatly benefit from tehg commercial opportunity that doing business with Israeli affords. However, the hard core terrorist groups will kill any who dare speak out..You will have to have a push from outside to clear them out..by the IDF.like the US did to Saddam..

How wonderful would it be in our lifetimes to see a leader rise up against these cults who have ruled with suicide and death for 40 years, and call them the barbarians that they are, denounce them unambiguously, and shame anyone who joins them.

Maybe I am just a hopeless romantic.

"A new state will be easier to attack than refugee camp."

How many thousands would have to die and how many years pass before that new WESTERN financed terrorist state will be declared a terrorist state needing to be attacked?

No, you're not..it is happening today within Iraq. Buit ultoimately the Palestinians will have to excise the cancer themselves. No one can do it for them.. Most people have NO idea of the basic facts...The average age of Palestinians is udner 20..they have lived all their lives in a cesspool of indocrinated hatred orchestrated by Arafat and his ilk..and you cannot eradicate that overnight.

A new state run by terrorists is easier to attack than the refugee camp it is now.

__That's the salient point. I'm sure Sharon and Bush have privately agreed about this. The IDF can roll over any sort of Palestinian state with ease...and without the world's sympathy being directed to the plight of refugees.

Maybe you will be right, and this new state will have real weapons, not rocks, and the world will divide up for the final battle.

Until then, it is possible that civility will blossom in the young, and a common need for survival will prevail over death.

But if they choose the Islamic cults, and not a civilized society, with all the globe has to offer, then I and my children, and their children will have to fight, and can say we tried.

He and those who come after him had better get serious protection, and/or start their own "murders in bed".
