But as the United States becomes more like the brutal police states we once fought, we also mourn for the loss of our freedoms. We mourn the loss of the great promise that once was America -- now betrayed by politicians, bureaucrats, thuggish enforcers, and uncaring citizens.

What are you talking about? The US is hardly a police state!

We are required to wear seatbelts. We can't say the N word or we'd be arrested. Smokers are treated like second class citizens. We aren't allowed to hit our kids or we'll be arrested for child abuse. NAMBLA is a recognized organization. We are denied the right to have a Christmas play in our schools, they are now 'Winter Programs'. Our children are being kidnapped, raped and murdered at alarming rates, but the offenders have their rights. The Ten Commandments are an effrontery to the atheist, so it is removed.

I could go on and on. Everyday a little more is taken from us. It is in such small increments that it's hardly noticeable at the time.

Don't pay your government rent on your "private property" and see what happens.
When was the last time you got to keep a whole paycheck?
Go down town and buy a new pistol.
Plant a cross in the park.
Use your free speech and protest an abortion clinic.
Don't remove the ice from your sidewalk and watch the people walk by with dollar signs in their eyes.
Smoke a cigarette on the corner, or drink a beer.
Don't hire a homo.
Use you school tax for a private school.
Fill in a swamp.
Kill a spotted owl or chop down an old tree.
Tell your employees you don't offer fringe benefits for free.
Tell your ex you're keeping the kids.
Don't cave to Jessie Jackson.

I don't think he was saying that we are there - yet. Just that we are headed in that direction. As far as the second amendment goes, the first serious blow came during the Roosevelt administration with the passage of the National Firearms Act (1935), which had the effect of limiting the citizenry to only certain classes of weapons, while the options for the government remain unlimited.

Like all gun-control laws, it was an expansion of government control whose support was ginned up by the sensational news media reports of bad guys like Al Capone and John Dillinger. Likewise, the actual bad guys the law was ostensibly driected at never have problems obtaining whatever machine-guns, explosives, and silencers they need. Gangs like MS-13 are often better equipped than the police themselves.

It's also been pointed out that the Posse Commitatus Act of 1878 seriously undermined the second amendment due to the placement of the state militias under Federal control via a simple declaration from the President. Thus, if the Supreme Court rules that Kansas must recognize gay marriages performed in Massachusetts due to the "full faith and credit" clause, Kansas has no effective choice but to obey the court. If the Kansas governor and legislature were to refuse, they have no police power to back them up. A future President liike Hillary Clinton could simply nationalize the State militia (now called the National Guard) and forcibly arrest the disobedient Kansas officials and install lackeys more to her liking.

"What are you talking about? The US is hardly a police state!"

Picture this:

A heavy equipment operator, doing legal work, is summoned off his machine by a "green shirt", who then interrogates the operator, all the while with his hand on his pistol.

Russia?

Nope.

The good 'ole USA. Land of the free.

We're not getting to be a police state, we've been there for quite a while.

Nonsense. You're blind to the obvious.

People were recently arrested in a non-moving, gdamned ferry line in Galveston TX for not wearing their damn seat belts!

I knew it wouldn't take long for the Big Stupid Government apologists to drop by.

All enemies, foreign and domestic.
