Elder Bush Would like Son Jeb to Run for President

George Bush, the president's father, would like to see another Bush in the White House someday, saying on Tuesday that he would want his son Jeb to run for president when the timing is right.

Florida Governor Jeb Bush has repeatedly said he does not plan to run for president in 2008, trying to dampen speculation that another Bush could be on the next Republican ticket for the White House.

In an interview on CNN's "Larry King Live," former President Bush said he would want Jeb to run for president "someday," but now was not the time.

"The timing's wrong. The main thing is, he doesn't want to do it. Nobody believes that," Bush said.

But he and wife Barbara both said they believed Jeb, 52, did not want to run in the next presidential race.

Bush said he did not have a favorite candidate for the Republican nomination to succeed his son, President Bush.

Barbara Bush said she believed Senator and former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton would be the Democratic nominee in the 2008 presidential race. "I'm not going to vote for her, but I'm betting on her," she said.

In all fairness to GW, I think that Jeb would have better as President than GW... Imho...

I'd vote for Jeb in an instant.

He's a terrific Governor!

Jeb might find it is easier to run Washington than to run Florida.

What we need is someone who went to both Harvard AND Yale, so the Left can't accuse him of being dumb. Oh, wait, nevermind...

That would be a mistake. I can almost see a Constitutional amendment prohibiting consecutive candidates from the same immediate family.

Yep, I am all for JEB in 08. You think the Dims would have backed off from JFK from 61-68, RFK from 69-76, EMK from 77 to 84 and then gone on to the next generation had thinks worked out for them.

"I had to swallow hard before voting for "Dad" in 88."

In all honesty, so did I. '41 did not have Barbara for a mother :) Her kids had that advantage.

Imagine President Condi Rice sandwiched between 8 years of GWB and 8 years of Jeb. I don't dare imagine too loudly out of fear that all of Hollywood would faint and fall to the ground, triggering a massive earthquake.

I'm sure if Jeb runs, we'll see more of these signs.

You wouldn't need all of Hollywood for that to happen - just Michael Moore.

he is smart not to run in 2008, the US will not elect another Bush on the heels of B43. we may need Jeb to unseat Hillary in 2012.

Libertarian ping.To be added or removed from my ping list freepmail me or post a message here

I really dont know if the country could survive any more compassionate conservatism from the bush family we already got a couple of trillion dollars in extra spending and about 5000 new laws on the books in order for the first couple of bushs to prove they were mighty good liberal democrats. If jeb gets in it would be a great time to short sell every stock in america and then put all the money into european real estate
