TOKYO (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp. aims to start selling robots that can help look after elderly people or serve tea to guests by 2010, the Asahi daily reported on Tuesday.

Japan's top automaker sees a declining birthrate and aging population leading to growing demand for robots that can help in tasks such as child care and nursing care, the report said.

Toyota will soon set up a liaison committee to develop technology for the robots with group firms, including car parts maker Denso Corp. it added.

"...Japan's top automaker sees a declining birthrate and aging population leading to growing demand for robots that can help in tasks such as child care and nursing care, the report said..."

This development proves once again that given time, the marketplace coupled with man's technical innovation can overcome any obstacle.

Alternative headline could read: Robots will replace illegal aliens.

It's a shame that the illegals are bankrupting and overthrowing our national sovereignty decades before this technology is fully implemented.

Vincente Fox will have to amend his statement to: "Mexicans will do the work that even robots won't do."

There are already automation option for many of the jobs that illegal immigrants do now. However, the machines are very expensive, so the laborers are cheaper.

If we can't produce things cheaply, we lost the business to imports. To build things cheaply, businesses need to pay low wages.

Employers need to pay competitive wages, but they are competing with compaines outside the US which makes it hard to be profitable while paying decent wages.

The dims will want to provide the bots with medicaire,Viagra, and sosh security as well as the ability to vote in several precincts.

W will attempt to give the bots amnesty.

Maybe the aliens can just buy a robot and have it sneak over the border, do the work and send the money home.

Interesting legal consequences and also why the illegal alien advocates want convertability.

If robots can replace "guest workers" then the non-convertable visa will require the guest worker to go home.

Will the ACLU demand that illegal aliens get unemployment benefits for the job displacement?

This would be devestating not only to the money mexico will not get because of money sent home, it will also mean that banks will not get their transaction fees via international atm fees. Will the IRS demand humanoid robot worker taxes to compensate for social security short falls.

If a robot can be financed for the cost of an empolyee then it is not just the illegals who are in trouble.
