Constitutional dreaming (Put on your liberal barf bag!)
The Boston Globe ^

Posted on 05/31/2005 6:39:45 AM PDT by Shortwave

As conservatives move to consolidate their hold on the courts, liberals and progressives look ahead--way ahead--and plan their strategy for taking back the Constitution....The brainstorming will continue in Washington in July at the ACS national convention, with three days of panels on such topics as ''The Future of Election Law,'' ''Interrogation, Torture, and the War on Terror,'' ''Moral Values and the Constitution,'' and whether there should be new limits on ''the commander-in-chief power.''

Let them dream, it's all they have left. They'll never have the power again to infringe on American freedom and liberty.

It's why they're fighting so hard over the judicial appts. - they're last avenue of fascism is being removed.

They don't need a conference. They can depend on McCain and Frist to botch things.

True, with betrayal and incompetence/cowardice, respectively.

Why would they want to "take back" something they are trying to destroy?

The liberals wouldn't the Constitution if it whopped them in the head. However, if there are any liberal lurkers here, please check out Article 1, section 8: the powers of congress, and then read the 10th amendment. You will notice that all the programs you are raising my taxes to support are unconstitutional.

"and whether there should be new limits on ''the commander-in-chief power.''"

Not possible without blurring the line between the separation of powers.

Other than 'high crimes and misdemeanors', there is nothing the Legislature can do to 'take away' power from the President that is given to him by the Constitution.
