I don't know the numbers, and I don't really think you do

#####

Nobody knows, or as Sec Rumsfeld says "It is unknowable."

I think you are looking at the glass half empty, and refusing to focus on the potential of Paying much less in FICA for twenty years. Assuming a $60,000 pa income, you and your employer are currently sending $7440 to the IRS for you SS contribution. Why do you prefer that to sending them 2/3s and putting the other $2500 in your own private account?

Insults? Why, not at all! I'm being especially careful not to offend you, because I know how sensitive you are. I always try to be respectful of my elders and those with proud service in the U.S. Marine Corps.

If you ever addressed a topic other than border control, I would not refer to you as a one-trick pony. But please accept my deepest apologies for any discomfort this may have caused you and your family. You know how I worry so about our elderly veterans.

Did he even have his conference yet? I don't find many comments on it upon skimming this thread.

I can't dispute the numbers with you. I don't know. Maybe you do. I know what the president has said.. and that is that a small segment will be hurt during the transition (and I'm in that segment).

But like I say.... my good news is that I'm not depending on SS for my retirment.

Besides, I don't want to turn this into a border control thread...

Oh, but some do. All threads MUST be related to that somehow.

Our president should find him, and bring him to justice because he told the American people that is what he was going to do. That was the priority at the time. But when politics, the price of oil, and other considerations come into the picture, the priority changes I guess.

One of the many things the President said was he would bring the perpetrators of that slaughter to justice. Go through and review a few of the many Al Qaeda scorecards floating around, and try telling us again how his priorities must have changed.

Yes, but some here are more interested in bringing their agenda to every single discussion.

Sure, but he may also elect to deal with Bolton first so as not to give the Dems the ability to say "See, look how nice we were, confirming two ultra right-wing, extremist, cross-burning judges!"

I was trying to decipher the extent of latitude to picking the timing of taking up the motion to reconsider. Some motions come up on their own schedule, like cloture. Filing of a motion to reconsider is also bound by a time limit; but taking up and voting on the motion to reconsider does not seem to be bound to a definite time.

I am undecided on the best tactical maneuver, Bolton first or later. My general sensibility is to handle Bolton first. The original plan ws to vote on the nomination last Thursday. Two DEMs said they wanted more info, most of the other DEMs knew they were going to vote against the nomination - so it is time to vote. Biden, Boxer and Dodd are not going to be able to delay the vote on their insistence of needing more information to reach a decision.

Do the Senators have to have a session open on the floor in order to bring a vote up for consideration? Or can they do it from Frist's office?

I can just about promise you that the last thing Bush wakes up concerned about is his legacy.

Unfortunately I have, oh grand elder veteran.

For instance, right here. Every time someone disagrees with you, we can often expect you to dismiss them while declaring some phantom victory. And maybe even hold your breath, grab your ball and go home, and refuse to talk to them again! :-D

Just one of many reports as recently as November.

"People are coming here with bad intentions. I know of 10 that have been detained at my station alone," said a Border Patrol agent whose identity has been withheld at his request. He said this is something that agents have been told not to talk about.

"We know for a fact that people coming from the Middle East are now coming into Mexico and spending a year, even two years in Mexico, to learn how to speak Spanish," the Border Patrol agent told NBC4.

"The key is to pass yourself off as a Mexican," said retired Army Colonel Ben Anderson. He has been following what he calls the terrorist trail and connecting the dots on his website. He said it's a journey that begins on the other side of the world.

"You come out of Cairo International and you go either to England or Madrid. From there, you either go to Paraguay or Brazil. There is a huge infrastructure there waiting for you to learn how to speak Spanish. You're then going to transition your way up through Latin America ... into Mexico," Anderson said.

There's no way to tell exactly how many people are coming through the border at places where you can see gaping holes in what little fence there is. There's no way to tell how many people, where they're going, and for that matter, what they're bringing with them."
