Here's what he posted:
As someone who is happy that out of all the foreign nations America is the strongest militarily, I can't help feeling a little uncomfortable with some of the comments on that page. Not only does it show America's best side but also it's worst. You can be proud, strong and joyous in your nation without resorting to half-truths and contempt even for your friends.
For Example, America has not fought in every battle in every war in the last 200 years. In fact it has even went so far as to oppose France, Britain and Israel when they attempted to fight Egypt. How times have changed!
As for a flag being "worshipped" that to me sounds decidedly communist or fascist not to mention blasphemous.
Power in the hands of the free does not need to shout it's existence - it is already a beacon. Light does not tell you it is light.
Flame me if you like, but I am very strongly pro-American. However, but when you start imitating 1930's European propaganda and utopianism, then maybe as the poet Robert Burns said "oh to see ourselves as others see us" is a gift of friendship too.
I don't think he was entirely out of line, but he was clueless on a couple of points, and he certainly could've phrased it better, especially in the last paragraph.
If you don't want my re-post of his post to appear on this thread (#97), feel free to delete it.
Then why torment yourself?
interesting...
the funny funny part is, the Germans never "worshipped" their flag, as he claims. by the time the Nazi flag was adopted in Germany, it was something like their 4th flag in a decade. What they were forced to worship was the maniac with the short mustache.
